Yeah right, get back on ya sister, ya wrong `un.

I’ll write this slowly, because you don’t read or write too well.
I prefer your ma, every time I give it one. It makes me a sandwich.

It’s going to do my head in all day if you don’t tell me :imp: So go on ‘bluenose’ tell me were you got it from, I dare yer, in fact I double dare yer :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :unamused:

I actually agree with bluenose in a sense. If the insurance is a couple of grand a year that £70 hasn’t and wont ever make anyone a bit of pocket money so it seems something is not right. Whether that is the price of verns insurance being considerably lower or he is pulling a fast one I don’t know.
I worked for a guy without an O license and insurance and I shopped him, result being he had his O license application revoked by VOSA and I am proud to say I did it. :sunglasses: He was running at an unfair advantage and taking work from people who did have the right papers and set up. If vern is doing this then I hope you get caught and stitched up, it is hard enough for anyone and I understand this and the chance that folk take it obviously worth it to them but I don’t agree with it.
So then vern seeing as you are claiming to be running legit you should have no problem in explaining how you have managed to make money from a £70 run when you include the overall cost of running it.

Here’s another one who has no clue but points the accusation finger! I didn’t say i had made a profit on my 1st outting did I? I said it was keeping my head above water. Now I could have done 2 more to make it MORE worth my while. It was my 1st outing.
Now…Not that I HAVE to reveal all. I will tell you doubters this. I don’t spend all of my time on this site. I have been putting bids in,and winning. I have more than enough work this week to make it pay. So get off yer’ high horses, and instead of whinging about what I do…Get on with what you do. Simple.

I havent accused you of anything you may want to read the post again :unamused:
I asked you to explain how your overall costs work out that £70 made it pay, or as you say keep your head above water. I havent had a go at anyone here and the fact you are so defensive makes you look rather guilty

Don’t you just love threads like these

The insurance thing is the significant issue here.

I’m not going to start pointing fingers at anyone, but in many cases people doing work off shiply and other similar sites are, probably without realising it, not correctly insured.

The issue is that there is a huge difference in both cover and price between normal insurance with business use added and courier insurance. To be legal doing work for hire and reward you need the latter. Normal “business use” insurance does not cover hire and reward work. Courier insurance even on a small van is generally getting on for 2000quid…

If they are lying to the dole office, they will lie on shiply and lie on here

haha if i see any aberdenn to bellshill jobs its getting stuck on the back of my lorry surely my boss wont mind

If they are on the dole maybe!

To be honest their are 3 types of “courier” those who work off shiply/ebay and others the first works for cash in hand with a van /car etc which isn’t insured, often the van is “borrowed” and they lack either insurance or the correct insurance. The second type are full time one man anad a van couriers who are stuck in the middle - their bread and butter is working for City sprint and TNT sameday and getting 55 p per mile and to make ends meet they do battle with the Birmingham to London lot that will shift a sofa for £40 ! Finally there are those small firms who will get a call from Joe public asking to move said sofa - offer to do it for £175 quid and here the thud as customer hits the floor.

I run 3 xl wb sprinters and have looked at shiply etc and if I got the customer to sign a disclaimer saying they won’t sue me when the "mothers pottery which was on the antiques roadshow and was worth a £150 per pot and was wrapped in newspaper and put in a walkers crisp box is suddenly broken  then I might use for the odd back load but really £40 from Brum back to london for a 3 piece suite is taking the p***

I’ll stick to my bread and butter work thanks I might not get apid for 6 weeks but and have to do invoices and vat but at least I get a decent rate for a decent service.

This is where most people screw up. Don’t bother with a sofa going mega distance.
Look for the silly little items like roof racks/alloy wheels, boxes of clothes that are only going a few miles. Do 4 or 5 of them at a fair price, and you can cover your exes and make a bit too. It’s not meant to be a major business venture. (I think!)
