Hi there Paul…some excellent pictures you have posted… all the scammell trunkers with spirit trailers had 7 pots…I think…now ,thinking about it I’m not so sure…its a memory thing… total carrying capacity was 6,300 gallons …they were known as Six Threes… the most we could carry was 6000 gallons if it was Petrol…5300 Gallons if it was derv or gas oil.,Parrafin I think was 5700… all our trailers were fitted with landing legs as we used to swap trailers a lot…in other terminals they might have been able to carry more if no legs fitted…I’m sat here thinking about how many pots there were…lol… heres the capacity on how I remember from front to back…in gallons… 1100 ,1100,800,500,600,1100,1100,…total 6300…we would light load compartment 2 I think because of axle weights… I think I shall have to ask one of the other drivers when I see them…lol…Bryan

A Scammell Trunker with a Thompson tank trailer , same outfit as the BP Oil Scammell above on the last post.

The photographs were given to me by Ted Swanson who worked with my father at Heysham , he was a smashing fellow , when I worked for roadferry at Heysham I would see Ted down at J.M. Gorrys at Morecambe.

I Hope he`s not lost !!

Not quite sure of the location but I would imagine the driver is in the lake District on delivery , having loaded the tanker at Teeside on nite trunk , I remember my father saying they 2 manned the motor over to the Shell Refinery over in Teeside.

Here we have a AEC 6 wheeler which I am pretty sure was in the Power Petrolium livery in its earlier days i`ll try and get a photo on of it.

In 1975 this Terminal was shared by both companys Shell oil and BP oil after the separation and the vehicles were randomly parked in the depot. by 1981/2 BP oil employees had moved to Partington and Gt Manchester and Dalston , ■■■■■■■ , and in 1983 the terminal closed with Shell moving to Haydock .

the Terminal had its tank farm under ground behind the offices.

The depot was build along side the refinery in 1943 in aid of the war effort to supply aviation fuel , but the terminal was upgraded in the late 1960s.

AEC , Leyland super comets new and old and a Scammell trunker.

Hello Darren , a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family and lets hope 2014 is a better year for everyone , I`ll post a few more photos but its very time consuming as you know , I need to get out and get some fresh air and exercise !!!. The photo is of Yelland Terminal , a nice Christmas scene !!!.

Inverness BP Oil Terminal , both Shell and BP have no responsibility for this depot its run by a Swiss company I think , but if someone can put me right they are welcome to tell me ?.

Here is a AEC 4X2 with a single axle trailer Shell mex and BP had a lot of these lorries , ive got a photo of a road tanker the same as this one that I went with my Father , it was parked on Morecambe Promenade.
