The coloured photo of the ERF C series , did you get the model road tanker that BP brought out , it was made by a model company called Smiths auto models , they made a few different types of road tankers for different oil companys , the price was reduced , I think it cost about £70 , I have seen the prices Smith models charge and they are not cheap , that’s why I decided to make my own road tankers , its more challenging and you have a model that you want , I started by just painting them and then after a few years making the tanks for the different vehicles , ive made a model of the Seddon Atkinson in the photo Ill post it. I
ll send you a pm with my email address. Heysham depot was split between Shell and BP with both companys vehicles parked along side each other , BP Oil moved out in 1982 , some of the drivers went to Partington near Manchester , it has closed and was flattened and Dalston in ■■■■■■■ which is still open and rail fed from Grangemouth . Shell oil remained at Heysham but the terminal closed in 1983 , the tank farm was under ground , about 12 tanks with 80,000 ton capacity , but its all gone now new businesses are on the land now .
A good photo of a Scammell that I made for Norman Kelbrick he worked for Shell at Dingle , Haydock then Stanlow. Norman passed his heavy goods licence in the Scammell on the right top.
Kingfisher cab and I made the chassis and springs and tank , its a little cracker this model , and to add a bit of nostalgia my father drove this road tanker at Heysham.
Great models Tankerjack - especially like the Seddon and ERF 8 wheelers. The model I have is a smiths ERF B series 8 wheeler although the tank that came with it isnt quite right - too short so may have a go at making one myself but may be running before I can walk.
I have some pics which i will try and post but am happy to email any you would like when I get your email address.
Best regards
Darren
Hi Darren , if you are feeling brave u could cut the tank in half and use rod to secure the inside of the tank , then use a metal paste you use for car body repairs to fill the gap in the middle ?. you already have the shape of the tank to work from. what are the dimensons of the ERF chassis from the middle of the second axle to the rear of the bumper , you will have to leave 6 or 7 mm at the rear for the pipe rack to fit on the rear of the chassis. I tell you what I can measure the Shell tanker in the photo , I can take the tank off and take a reading. Most of the models I have built needed extra on the rear of chassis , they dont have correct length from rear axle to the bumper , the tanks are longer if you compare to a tipper chassis. I
ll try and get some dimensons for you and sketch it out on a diagram. I always draw the road tanker on paper before I build it.
Thank you Paul that would be great cheers

The Haven depot stayed open when BP took over from Mobil at Coryton Refinery. It was only when they contracted out the road tanker function that they closed the depot and moved it into the Coryton refinery. Sadly it has been flattened now as the old Shell Haven Refinery is being replaced with a new container terminal.I have not seen a black oil Seddon 8 wheeler but do have a couple of nice photographs of an 8 wheeler white tank and a black oil artic - both Seddons. Both of these were taken at the Thame terminal. I only ever went on a 4 wheeler Seddon with my dad delivering petrol to a very small country garage about 2 miles from where we lived.
Have attached the pics - if you would like to swap any pics drop me an email.
Hi there Darren…the pictures of the Thame Terminal brought back memories…I worked out of the BP terminal at Dunball in Somerset and in the winter months a few of us would go to Thame each week and work from there…we would take our own vehicles…which were ERF’s with Fuel Oil trailers… we used to stay at the pub just up the road from the terminal…The Four Horse Shoes I think it was called…cheers…Bryan
A great side view of a white product vehicle with the 6 outlets and the pumping arrangement just behind the second steer axle. this is a AEC tin plate front cab design the Mk 3.
A Albion 8 wheeler with a rather strange designed cab , does anybody know who the cab manufacturer is ?
AEC 8 Wheeler with the Jennings cabbed sliding door , great for summer but you would have to be extra careful !!!
AEC 8 wheeler with a fuel oil barrel and the cab doors are of the type that are hinged at the rear of the door , suicide doors !!!
