Severn Road - Avonmouth - Speed / Red Light Camera

Hi all.
I was recently heading south on Severn road after leaving the M48 bridge, and at the junction with Redwick Road/B4064 I went past the white line on a red light in an artic. On approach to the junction the light was red so I started to slow down, about 250 yrds before the lights changed to green so let off the brake. I was loaded with about 8ton of toilet roll, no biggy but About 75yds before the junction, the lights changed to red again after about 4/5 seconds being on green. I was doing about 45mph ( it’s a 50mph limit ). I hit the brake pretty harshly, any more and I’d have left rubber on the road imo. I came to a stop about two metres over the white line, it was about 11:30pm, from what I can see on Street view there is no sensor loop in the road past the line, which makes me wonder if it is a red light camera or just a speed on green camera. I think it’s a truvelo camera. Does anyone have an experience with this junction? as it felt like a very short green light for a 50mph downhill stretch of road. I’ll definitely be doing about 35mph in future on its approach just to safe.

Any input is appreciated, been playing on my mind last few days. Hope I don’t get a letter in mail but only time will tell I suppose.

Thanks

That camera pictured is a red light camera was it behind the tarffic how many times did it flash if it flashed once your be fine they flash twice to indicate you have been caught .

It is positioned to photograph the rear of vehicles. Didn’t see any flash but thought they may be Infrared.

Those lights are a ■■■■■ if you don’t know them. Always plan to stop for them
As for the camera well did it flash? I have never ever seen it flash in 15 years of passing it sometimes 4-6 times a day sometimes even more.
I’ve got a feeling it’s not even active but can’t be sure, i guess you’ll find out in the next few weeks :smiling_imp:

i’d say your be fine then if no flash .I had the same situation like that before in different area same type of camera pictured behind traffic lights road was 50mph road lights were green on approach I started to slow I thought they would hold green but they didn’t . I hit the brakes the whole of front of the cab went over the front of the white line immediately looked in the near side mirror see the camera flashed once and that was it no second flash didn’t hear a thing from it spoke to a ex copper I knew he said they flash twice if you get busted

Fingers crossed I’ll ok.

Are you a new pass? You soon stop losing sleep about this stuff lol.
I’ve driven in and around london for the best part of 5+ years. Never got a speeding or camera ticket and I am no Carryfast when it comes to driving HGVs.

What I am getting at is these things happen and 99.99999% of the time you will never hear anything about it. So, don’t be stressing about it and doing some CSI google street view analysis to find out if your fudged or not lol.

You’ll be fine. Those lights used to be great for changing with a flash of the spotlights.

I love watching people do that ^^^^ makes me chuckle for hours.

Are they any nearer with that M49 junction onto the estate yet? Or has it been scrapped? Don’t do that run anymore so not been there for a while.

Think they are still arguing over who owns the last 100m of land & who will build it :unamused:

FTFY…

100m… really. You’d think all the millions profit the likes of DHL, Tesco, Lidl… etc are making they’d just throw in the pot and say build it. Is that possible?

Yeah thanks for that :unamused:

They still don’t know who owns part of the land but it will now be compulsory purchased! I wonder who they will pay the money to if they don’t know who owns it.

YW…

I’m confident it’ll be the same people that always pay up, you and me.

. I came to a stop about two metres over the white line,

No way you have to worry. Not least because your number plate won’t have reached the field of view of the camera.

You’re probably correct…

But, it does beg the question, what’s the point of the line if you can stop 2 metres over it? Surely the line would be 2 metres further.

Well if Robroy’s mythical traffic police was in attendance and witnessed [emoji6] you could be done for it.
But a camera that can cope with reading a numberplate of a car going through the lights at 50mph+ AND a 16.5m artic stopping 2m over the line? I’m not buying it.
