Self Tip,Aldi etc

Christ on a bike is this ■■■■■■■■ still going.

What does it matter either way, we aint all been cloned, yet…despite most of the so called blue chip mobs desperately rushing to dumb the job down to clown level and paying accordingly.

Some want to and are happy to sit on their arses, some are happy to muck in and tip themselves, when you take a job on you know what’s involved so its your individual choice, if there’s a bit of graft involved there’s usually a pay incentive and that’s always been the case and it always will be.

Neither method is wrong and neither method is right.

Long live individuality.

No, it’s just there are so few jobs left where the driver has a choice of actually getting involved in the load, doing something other than chauffering a bloody vile piece of modern automated blinged up electronic junk to/from RDC’s.

Just can’t for the life of me get why people are slagging the self tip lads, it’s their choice to do that job, beats the hell out of vegetating at some Godforsaken supermarket RDC peering, as so many do, into the satanic screen of the latest gameboy currently called iphone 14 or some such tripe and avoiding eye or word contact with all around lest a conversation with a real live person happened…ironically some of them will then moan when the same ‘trucker’ they ignored in said RDC hell fails to answer the flash from their 22 spotlights when he overtakes him 5 miles down the road…

Just think we’ve lost sight that it’s a (to quote a modern and misused by politicians cliche word) diverse industry still, and we should be all for keeping such differing practices going such as self tip.

Would i self tip?, course i would, better than ending up on two bloody sticks trying to shift a muscle-less 20 stone frame around cos we’ve turned into bloody vegetables…Christ’s sake these same buggers that can’t manage a pallet truck then go to the gym three evenings a week for exercise…is it me?

Live let live.

Course i’d really like a ■■■■■■■ Eaton/Fuller Rockwell in a proper British made lorry too, wouldn’t mind a set of ropes 'n sheets too. :open_mouth:

I know what you are saying.
However the main flaw in your post is the ‘it’s their choice’ bit, that’s my whole point …it isn’t ! I just think they have a downright ■■■■■■ cheek by not making it optional.
. It’s their way of saving money, by imo, taking the ■■■■ out of us drivers.

Btw. This is me who regularly and willinglly mucks in and handballs in my present job, difference is nobody is just taking me for granted that I will, because they have told me flatly to and made the rules whether I agree or not.

What is your opinion on my post about the hypothetical driver in the wheel chair, am I talking ■■■■■■■■ or making a valid point
You can bet your life they sure as hell have that potential situation well covered in advance.

Buggered if i can find that post about the driver in a wheelcahir.

As for their choice, well its usually laid out when you start a new job, don’t like the work don’t take the job.

If a driver does general, then just as you do, you do what’s required to get the job done, if it pays peanuts (recent Wincanski containers thread a prime example of hope they get standard of non driver they deserve, any good blokes should tell 'em exactly what to do with the job) then i can understand the do as little as they deserve for the pish they’re paying, but if you’re working for a decent company who pays and treats you well its in your own interests to make sure the job last as long as possible.
Mesen i’d always rather be doing summat than sat on me already too fat arse wishing i’d be born good looking with large undercarriage… :imp:

5 posts up from this one, get a grip man.

Look Juddian I’m same as you old style been there done that in transport type of driver.
Don’t get me down as a lazy ■■■■■■■■ …arsey ■■■■■■■ maybe, but not lazy .
My thing is I am sick of the way that the job has evolved to where drivers are made to jump through hoops, bend down over a barrell, and take any form of crap that is handed out. Regs dcpc h&s to name a few.
The unfortunate thing is today most do it and conform without question so the situation is taken advantage of for that fact.
As I said it is a ■■■■ take. Just because on the flip side it’s quicker/good excercise etc etc ( which I agree with btw) does not matter a ■■■■, that aint the point…like I said arsey ■■■■.

I’ll try and make this my last comment on this ( unless someone winds me up with you have to do as you are told in this job, or something :unamused:  ) as I am even boring the arse off myself now, never mind you lot.

Anyone do the bread in to these ‘holes’?

You don’t just unload it, and put it into lines, like you do with normal stuff.
Oh no, you also are warehouse man, taking it down the isles and putting each ‘type’ in it’s correct place, with those fork lift things (are they classed as fork lifts) flying past all the time.

A full trailer is 88 stacks, 2 at a time = 44 trips up and down, over 12,000 steps covered in 2.5hrs other day.

HIRE WAREHOUSE STAFF YOU TIGHT ■■■■■■■!!!

I don’t mind the self tip in Aldi or lidl.
Gets me out the cab for a half hour.
It ain’t exactly hard work ffs it’s always those elici forks anyways.

Because you should have listened at school then you wouldnt be a labourer with a license on 7.50 an hour and 2 quid an hour on nights out (if your lucky) acting as a security guard for some jerk who is tucked up in his bed.

4 hours to self tip 8 pallets at lidl Livingston yesterday. Tossco are quicker at tipping a full load from a decker and that is saying something. They even give you parking space unlike lidl where chaos and confusion is their way. So much for German efficiency :unamused:

we have all been to RDCs where we have to wait to be tipped,i went to a LIDL in enfield one day and I went on the bay walked inside and the guy handed me a key to an electric truck told to tip myself and then he would check and sign,i was happy to do it,saved me hanging around for someone to do it for me,no doubt others have felt the same

I rolled in there at 8.00am on friday morning, the queue was right out to the roundabout, their employees couldnt get into the carpark to start work!

Sat 3 hours then told to take it to Royston Road, what a ■■■■■■ place!

and that is why my boss dumped the lidl work in favour of aldi.

Mitchells? I got there around 10 past 8. We are in around that time every day and only use bay 38. I was in there a couple of months ago with a different company and they gave me a pager. My initial thought was 'that cant be good :open_mouth::laughing:

I self load and tip every day though I do drive a lowloader
if I was delivering a box full of baked beans to said RDC I would invoice them for the price of £100ph (with non get out clause and fees for non payment for the small business and fees for everyday of nonpayment believe me it works in the small claims court) for the use of my personal insurance be use you know their insurance would find fault and for the use of my safety certificates and training and make the sign for it befor I tipped as I’m self employed and have to pay for my own H&S training and so would take out a risk assessment before hand and demand any issues wher resolved before tipping

I can be a arse at times !

But if you get paid by the hour why worrie just get the to sign the time you arrived and the time you leave and make it there problems and refuse to leave the bay until you have paperwork !

I overheard an agency warrior refuse a run at our gaff last week. He was happy to go home with no pay because they wanted to send him on a self tip run when the agency had promised him a trailer swap at an RDC.

I guess he doesn’t need the money :unamused:

Think whats changed since this was originally posted is that now ( aldi goldthorpe ) you dont plonk it in lanes directly behind trailer for them to whisk away …

But they want you to take fresh produce to pick face !!

This i think is a blinking liberty.

Sounds the same as the bread.
Unload trailer, then take it to this isle, that isle, the other ■■■■■■’ isle - and when that isle’s full, you’ve got to ASK PERMISSION to put it in another isle :unamused:

1 day I lasted

Moan about self tipping, moan about sitting on their backsides in RDC drivers room for ages waiting to be tipped.
No pleasing some people who seem to think all that LGV Driving jobs are about is being a LGV Chauffer, but there again, they have more than likely never been in or on the back of trailer to load /unload one.
Pre-loaded trailers drop and swap brigade

Nothing wrong with tipping yourself, some of us could do with the exercise
