There,s a big problem with ALDI managers too they hate trade unions ,and if a union rep comes onto their premises ,trying to get people to join up,ALDI managers have been told to call the police. :unamused: :unamused:

I,m a HGV driver : job description :drive lorry. :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

I agree with you 098Joe it only goes backwards and forwards and up and down mind you probably a bit much for some on here. Dont see what the problem is we always used to load/offload years ago and didnt have modern equipment to do but it was part of the job. As was roping and sheeting. I regularly deliver to Aldi, there very freindly and helpful, toilets available. Dont see what the problem is. These people that say they havent been trained are you the ones that go to different companies and say cant drive that lorry havn’t been trained, cant pull that trailer its 2 inches longer I havn’t been trained. Get as life people your supposed to be proffessionals try being that for a change.

I for one do not have a problem with loading or unloading but, IF i was to hit someone and IDK say brake there leg I would not want to be the one getting ■■■■■■ over because no one has given me training even if I do know how to use it. it might be easy to use but because of H&S BS and everyone wants to bring lawsuits on everyone I want my ■■■ covered. a forklift is a ■■■■ easy thing to use as well but would you use one without training if you had no idea what to do?

Just because you know how to do something does not mean you should use/do it.

Exactly! All this h&s bullcrap was started by tossers like these, but suddenly they become selective with it when it suits them.

Nobody is saying the elec pump trucks are difficult :unamused: ffs. and it has ■■■■ all to do with professionaism either…Jeeez H

The bar has been set so we should use it to our benefit as well as our detriment :bulb:
Play the ■■■■■ at their own game, but then again as usual some will do absolutely anything without any form of resistance or at the very least a display of displeasure…because they are told to. :unamused:

I enjoy the self tipping part, it’s the queuing for hours to get on 3 different bays as they only use a tiny portion of the available bays and standing round for hours after waiting for paperwork than annoys the life out of me! You can lose half a day in Newton Aycliffe easily.

I’ve never understood this anti tip your self attitude to be honest. We expect the driver of a parcel van to unload his own vehicle. Same goes for a concrete wagon or builder’s lorry.
So why is it suddenly unacceptable to wheel pallets off the back door?

Exactly.

Nothing outrageous at all about a driver being expected to assist with the delivery of goods. Aldi & Lidl just upset the RDC/Box Jockey brigade because they thought their job didn’t involve having to do any actual work & they just want to vegetate on the bunk as normal, so they pull out the H&S card to excuse their laziness & try to wriggle out of it.

Well I aint rdc/box jockey, neither am I lazy or pulling out any cards. In real terms I don’ t mind it, especially if I am in a hurry or whatever to get home, catch ferry, on a promise or all 4.
However strange as it may seem, what I have got a life long aversion to is being taken the ■■■■ out of and I think they are doing just that …end of. Say what you like mate and make any excuse for conforming, but their employees ought to be doing it and/or with an OPTION of doing it yourself.
If that was the case, you know what? I would maybe go for it, just for the reason I have pointed out. :bulb:

seth 70:
Dont forget radar you only drive half of a propper lorry  :grimacing:

He probably earn’s a very similar rate to you, though. He might even drive a Transit Van and earn more than you lol

Well, would you guy’s be surprised if someone told you that the warehouse staff at Aldi or Lidl were earning more money than the HGV driver’s, who delivered to their RDC’s?

Fair enough, I regret the tone of my post to be honest, but I personally just don’t agree with the notion that we are being taken the ■■■■ out of. Maybe because most of the work I have done in my driving life up until the last few years has been retail stuff, so I have always been on the back of trailers tipping them myself. Just part and parcel of the job to me, if someone else is tipping it for me, then that’s a bonus.

OK mate if that’s what you are used to doing I see your point, but I still think in their case they are having a laugh at our expense.

Right mate we all get it …on ALL :unamused: of your posts.
Driver’s wages and t&c.s are crap in comparison to most other occupations.
Now do us all a favour and change the ■■■■■■ record ffs. :unamused:

098Joe:
Quick question for the drivers who are moaning about not being trained on electric pump trucks. Most of you constantly bang on about how highly skilled and expensively trained you are to drive your highly sosphisticated trucks, that could kill if you lapsed concentration for a millisecond, and should be paid the same as pilots. How come you are defeated by a pump truck that has about 3 switches?

would you ask a fighter pilot to drive a car with no training?

Yes if he can fly a fast jet I am fairly sure he would get the hang of it fairly quickly

Sit on your backside for 2-3 hours waiting to be tipped then have to “boot it” to where ever, instead of self tipping in 30 minutes and drive at your leisure or have a break. No brainer for me.

Yep. Least if you self tip you can control the length of time ot takes (to a certain degree)

The-Snowman:

Spent 7 hours in Lidl’s Livingston depot today, self tipping doesn’t make a jot of difference to the time they’ll keep you sitting waiting on a bay/paperwork!

Depends how you look at it .
It’s all in a day’s work, you ring in and say you have been delayed ( and paid :bulb: ) for 3 hours through no fault of your own. So your next drop is gonna be late and may have to be paid also for an extra night out.
It aint your job to make time up because of loader’s incompetence, that is up to your boss to aim for some kind of recompense. That’s the no brainer bud :bulb:
And as for ‘booting it’ do you risk your licence everytime it aint your fault for being late. And do you only have a break only after a self or quick tip.

Basically if I were still fit and driving I’d have no problem with loading/unloading myself, it’s what I always did until my last job. On the other hand, Rob Roy’s right. H&S bs has changed everything and while I managed to get away with ignoring it most of the time, you have to be careful that it doesn’t backfire on you if something does go awry… like it did for me :frowning:

Case in point. Don’t know your personal cirumstances Peter, but it sounds like you come unstuck by doing something at work, maybe that you questionably ought not to have been…which we all have in the past.

Ok, worst case scenario here. Let’s say the self tip thing goes seriously ■■■■ up one day, and a driver ends up in a wheelchair. Who on here is naive enough to think that he/she will get full backing from Lidl/Aldi willinglly, because self tip is co. policy so they take full responsibility for their actions and stand by the driver.
More likely it will be the full wrath from their very good, and very expensive Company ‘loophole lawyers’ brought around the unfortunate driver’s lugs in the form of …The driver did not ask for the Co. training facility which was clearly pointed out to him pre. tip, or he did not use the pallet truck as he should have been, or something along those lines.

So driver ends up with a serious life changing injury, out of work permanently with his mortgage…up ■■■■ creek without his paddle… but hey! he saved 2 hours self tipping. :bulb:

A bit dramatic maybe, but it could, and probably will happen one day, I just hope it does not happen to any of you more than willing/ do anything that is asked type of guys on here, or more importantly and selfishly, to me.
