I dont know if it’s the man or the horse.
Drivers never dressed like that for work.
Billy lmao a name like who what Ken lol .When we rubbed it down to paint it the doors were red with Ellison or something of the like on them
I got of a chap in ringwood who hauled boats only bought for spares to use for a ex Brain Haulage y reg as it turned out it was in far better condition than the Y reg so the we kept the xreg and scrapped the y
Reading about Elstran & Brain Haulage etc etc and seeing theses old photos reminds me of when i was a boy, riding up & down the A13 with my old man. He used to drive a tipper between Thurrock power station and Barking. That was in the 70s & 80s, i used to go with him in his Scammell 8 wheeler in the school holidays. Used to love seeing firms like Neales, Drapers & all the other old East End transport firms. Happy days. Im on containers myself theses days. ( wish my dad had been a plumber ).

Never had a roadtrain had one on demo but didnt like the way you could see down the front panel at the wiper linkage
and never had any yanks but other than that i suppose yea tried most if hacther or cornet made a visor and i could put a bit of furniture on it and dress it up I bought it lol I sort some unusel ones out next sed-atkis and ec14s had some nice ones of those any way thanksWho had the day-cabbed F12 before you Ken? The only day-cabbed F12s I ever saw were at Pandoro but I think they were 6x2s. Bulmers (I think) had some day-cabbed F10s, and I think Phil Llewellyn did a Long Distance Diary in an issue of Truck magazine when he rode with their trunkers.
The Liverpool-registered F7 looks well with that tri-axle behind it - who had that one new?
The F7 does look tidy. I know Ferrymasters ran quite a few and in the early 80’s I think some were supplied by Lancashire Trucks at Kirkby (but I don’t recall that reg) They were supplied with the built in catwalk and step which you had to remove to get at the batteries (pain!) Also, as well as Bulmers I think one of the big breweries ran the day cabs (Whitbreads?)
Hi lads,Magic pics Kenny…more please ,great info and pic of the’ Oss and cart,my grandad started with horse and carts and he would tell me stories from those days…always finished with “He was a good 'Oss”.
Today stuff, although Kens pictures are putting mine to shame.
Newlyn harbour near Penzance for this ERF “B” series of .W.Stevensons.
A quarter of a century has passed since I took this pic,Sunters 142E is seen on route from Bath to Avonmouth with a crane base as its load.
Curries of Dumfries now, running west on the M4.

That bloke won’t be the “carter” he’s more like the traffic manager, look at his shoes and he’s wearing a suit ! the carter would have had an apron on and probably wearing clogs. Your right, horse lorries just went to the fron’t of the queue,I well remember transhipping a small wooden case onto one of JRT’s horse lorries on Liverpool docks one day,for the price of a pint!! The queue was a mile long and that was all I had to deliver. happy day’s,Cheers Bewick.
Two old photos found in a drawer, don’t know which show it was but taken around 16-20 years ago.

hiya,
Before I actually gave the Albion picture a proper look I thought I was going to read Hollands Pies on the side of it, great picture that one, did a London and back in one like that in 1957 it was just a one off but a bit nippier than the old Octopus that I normally drove on nights again to London the Albion did about 42 mph the Octopus and drag did about 31 mph with a good tail wind, believe me 42 mph was flying in those days stopping the bleedin things was the problem.
thanks harry long retired.
1952 Albion for sale on ebay now if anyone interested
There great Mark love The Stevensons girls stuff that and Suttons great

I seem to remember the Grimsby depot had day cabs as well as sleepers, they also operated TK and TL Bedfords. This one was already posted on Trucknet previously by Gazzer
How about from an earlier time?

Hi coca cola kid, the FG Foden and the Albion were photographed at Murton tractor rally at the live stock centre at York. The Foden is driven by Malcolm Slater and the Albion was owned by Stan Houseman from Melborne near York. I think that the photo will date from the late 80s. I don’t know much about the Albion other than it had living accommodation in the back of it. The Foden is ex Marley tiles and later passed into the ownership of Liam Quinn an owner driver from York whos father drove a similar Foden for NMU at York duriong the 60s. Regards Tony H.

I think you’re right Ken - I’m sure I read something similar in Commercial Motor. Was it Bass or Scottish & Newcastle?
