Scrapbook Memories (Part 1)

Nice pictures ,I hated being loaded for the docks at LP. I remember in the late 50s being there with 4 drops ,I ended up tking the last one to A.V.Crutchley, so I could get my return load, they used horse drawn rollies in those days, & allways went to the front of any queues as I experienced seeing the severall times, I quite often back loaded from the BRS, at Bootle but the loads were allways off the docks, still its nice to look back on the old days good or bad, Regards Larry

I was told by one of Crutchleys hostlers, that the law did not allow horses to stand in queues. I’m sure someone will put us right as to if that was the case or not.
It’s a wonder my old boss (Fred Davies) didn’t have a team of them!!!

This was the case , that a horse drawn rollie got priority over modern day vehicles, old Crutchley must have made a lot of money out of it, The last time I was at Birkenhead I some his name still on the old sheds, Regards Larry

Would that have bee the one from Manningham ? Regards Larry

I was shown the picture of the carter with his steed (and JRT rollie) several years ago by someone who actually knew him.

Sadly, I’ve long-since forgotten the carter’s name, but I was told this was his regular attire at work and that he was in his eighties when he called it a day. I suspect this was actually a working shot - not posed for the camera.

As a bit of throw-away useless information, there’s one of these carts sat in the corner of a field at a riding school in Scarisbrick, Lancs. It’s from Liverpool, as there is a glimmer of the original signwriting which includes the word on one of the side raves.

Who had the day-cabbed F12 before you Ken? The only day-cabbed F12s I ever saw were at Pandoro but I think they were 6x2s. Bulmers (I think) had some day-cabbed F10s, and I think Phil Llewellyn did a Long Distance Diary in an issue of Truck magazine when he rode with their trunkers.

The Liverpool-registered F7 looks well with that tri-axle behind it - who had that one new?

I was thinking that myself…whats the history of the day cab Volvo?.

bubbleman:
Hello again, good stuff coming in lads, well done…Bowser,I must have put the Transcon on before as I remember the comment about the big tank behind the cab…apologies for repeating the pic lads.

Western Roadways Mercedes is seen westbound on the M4.
Whats going on in that cab . . looks like a driver change on the move?
