That S Harrison Highwayman is fine looking old lady,
That must have been such a sight in it’s dayI remember seeing that Scammell on a couple of occasions running up and down the M1 in the early eighties, you couldn’t really miss it. I once parked near it on Woodall Services and at the time it didn’t cross my mind to take a photo .
went to school in rushall near walsall, pre m42 days all n/e to s/w traffic came through rushall including harrisons,if only you could wind the clock back and take me camera with me
Harrisons restored rigid eight. On this model the front axles are mounted on a bogie. Inboard of the rear drums are large chain sprockets and it could be made into double drive by fitting a chain either side.
Peter Harrison with another rigid eight that he has started work on. This has a conventional front axle arrangement.
A Leonard J Stamp Scammell one of many in the back garden of the house.
Cheers Phil.
Hello again, heres a few more then.
Cheers Bubbs,
There’s a pic of another one of Harrisons Scammells on page 41 of the July edition of Classic and Vintage Commercials.
my boss ken harvey was telling me the scania vaa740h was bought by rf interport from a daf dealer at waford. him and pete kellett brought it up to leigh were it was fitted with sand tyres driven to felixstowe and shipped to saudi arabia, were it worked for interports depot out there. the connecting prop between the double drive failed and caused alot of damage, the driver got it back and it was topped on flat trailer and brought back to the uk were a double bogie from a guy big j was grafted on to it. they sorted the props out made them fit, and then it had the passenger seat taken out curtains put up and then driven back out to middle east overland were it continued to work. rgds twolamps
Dont those early X reg 2 series Scanias look naked without their sunvisors.
Hope these are of interest
Cheers Marc.

…I’d love to see Steady Eddie swap his Scanias for a fleet full of these (proud to be British and all that) Now that WOULD make good television!

It’s owned by Gary Grysa who uses it to carry his old Foden about. It was at Gaydon but parked at the back of the Foden area.

Hiya Marcus, you sure do dig 'em up! Leylands depot is on the other side of the main line from where our depot was. That shot of me and the D1000 was at Tommy Leylands first small warehouse on Shap road in Kendal.one of my younger brothers used to help him in the evenings after school, tipping and reloading his 2 or 3 motors whose main traffic in the 60’s was collecting from various warehouses in Liverpool for deivery to grocers and cash and carries in Furness, south Westmorland and Lancaster areas. The motors Tommy ran then were an Albion Clydesdale Super Six,a Commer with Perkins 6.354 and a Karrier Bantam flat.Cheers Dennis.

I reckon i’d like to try a tipper of these; great for Oxford City deliveries, straight out onto the pavement and I could dodge puddles on the tip.
Does anyone have pics of Johnson Aggregates of Wooton Bassett? They were Leyland Constructor 6wheelers, ERF E10 8wheelers with block grab/tipper combo. I remembered them seeing that Duffet of Warminster 8wheeler; I’ve seen that in Johnsons’ early '90s.

Aye, you and me both mate, and the ERF. Patricroft power with a 6 speed DB. I once had one with a ZF box, air assisted change, it was a good machine.
Strangely enough, I think that this Atki had a really odd transmission - something like an old 5-speed Fuller with a 2-speed axle
