Cheers Bubbs,
I wonder if Paul can shed any light on the origins of this one, with its Bury reg.■■
Looks like a smarter sleeper conversion than a Jennings pod, too

Aye, you and me both mate, and the ERF. Patricroft power with a 6 speed DB. I once had one with a ZF box, air assisted change, it was a good machine.
Strangely enough, I think that this Atki had a really odd transmission - something like an old 5-speed Fuller with a 2-speed axle
I believe both Geoff Stamper and his uncle Gordon were not averse to trying all kinds of different transmission specs in Atkis! Bewick.

Hiya …that sleeper could be a home made jobby…ta simular cab was made by jennings, it was know as a crew cab
they made some to go onto lorries demonstrating fuller gearboxes three people could sit in the back.was,nt Eaton Fuller at the side of the M61 near Bolton just down the road from Bury. maybe the ERF is a streched unit…maybe …maybe…maybe
i see the chassis is’nt a tapered one.

Cheers Bubbs,
I remember this one; they had it around '99-2000. Was this pic taken on M4 as they used to run sand out of Gill Mill to Colas plants on a SITA contract. I used to load this one, pre 44t it had a good payload about 26-27t if I recall correctly. They replaced it with an X reg Daf 95 480.

I get the red x from time to time. Try leaving the page at the top before scrolling down for a few minutes and then right click the x. Where someone quotes the pic with a x try clicking that instead. I find you get less problems if you look at “off peak times”.

Wasn’t there a Stamper from Scotland, maybe around Motherwell that ran Atkis back in the 70s,or is it the same company from Penrith?

Yes John, he drove one of Cleavers’ first 95xfs. He used to park at Enstone airfield, and ran to RMC at Aylesbury from Gill Mil.
Do you remember those day cabbed ERF E series Cleaver had? They were all named after AECs. There was Mercury, Mandator and Marshall when I first started loading them. They had a Merc powerliner that got stolen from their workshop one night and I think the thieves moved several lorries to get it out l

Yeah I remember the ERF’s Nathan and the powerliner, but I didn’t know it got stolen don’t know what they moved to get at it, but I recon they may have been better than the Merc.

The ERF Olympic, another Powerliner, an FH, and what was a pile of bits now resembling a Mammoth Major

Not really the deal of the day then with any of them. with some of the haulers up that way, if they had had a look around, they could have got something decent.

Isn’t this the firm that evolved into Cardiff Bros. of Rutherglen?
Hello again,
First…Matt, sorry you cant see the pics, you’re not the only one to suffer this but I think its my picture resizer thats the problem.I’ve been asked to use somebody else to resize but I dont have much pc knowledge and I get confused so I stick within my comfort zone…the “easy way to resize pics” at the top of the page is as clear as mud to me.
Norfolktrucker…nice pics mate, thanks for sharing them.Nathan…yep the Cleavers CF was took on the M4 near Bristol, the XF in todays bunch was took at the same place.

There is a good chance that it could of been one of Bert Hinchcliffes from Walmersley or one of Ben Barnes from Rawtenstall at one time, before it moved down to Gloucestershire.
Regards Steve.
hiya,
Marc I’m lucky I get everything you post, don’t know how I’d manage without my daily fix of “scrapbook”.
thanks harry long retired.
