The engine in this Austin is 16hp, a 4 cylinder 2199cc capacity. I once owned an
ex Army Austin Hampshire with this engine and 4 speed column change gearbox.
It was new in 1950, and I bought it in 1965, It had a Liverpool reg number 1540 KD.
Ray.
Thanks Ray.

Grady Hall originally from Burnopfield.
As well as tippers they had a fleet of slurry tankers working locally 24/7 for the Coal Board.
They bought the Millbay workshop and premises at Birtley which had been the base for Spillers transport fleet.
As well as running the transport they were MAN/VW agents for Tyneside. Unfortunately went out of business some years ago.
Lately Evans Halshaw were running the Leyland Daf dealership from the site but I think that has also closed.
Tyneside

BuzzerKeep up the good work Buzzer, I’m not on Facebook so whatever you post is often new to me,
I know some of my pics have been posted elsewhere, but so what? I’m not David Bailey, to me it’s not an art form, I’m happy if they’re in focus and worth seeing. Regards Kev.
I 2nd that, I’m also not on Facebook and I enjoy looking at the photos. Buzzer and a few others who post on this site have managed to help keep this site going while the internet has been having problems on this site, most people would have given up.
So thank you and may it continue
Simon

I’ll bet that little fella driving Joseph Sumners Octopus had arms like Popeye, an 8 wheel Octopus took some swinging about, no power steering.

Sainsburys Buntingford!, Used to have to watch your mirrors going over the Alps on the A507 !! They’d take them clean off!!

Crikey Shunt it’s been a few years since I heard anyone saying going over the Alps for that road I was gave a young driver directions for that part of the world and when I said go over the Alps he looked at me with a completely vacant expression

It was just word association K, Sainsburys, Buntingford, = Alps! , I must admit to wondering too what my dad was on about when I first heard called it that when i was small, just one of those things you dont realise until your older and sat on the opposite side of the cab when they are coming at you!
many a mirror ripped off whether on purpose or not!, one things for sure they didnt like slowing down!

Never heard it called the Alp’s, us Braintree people called it the goat track, fastest way to the M1 from Braintree. Woe betide anyone who went round the M25 instead !!!
