The huge Bibbys factory near to the River Mersey in Liverpool produced special edible
oils for many well known food products, particularly during World War 2. They also
produced oil products for the soap industry.

Now that really is an iconic photo, but I wonder if they were nervous of the ‘oh bugger’ moment when they got to the planned meeting point.
This chap is John Moores who created Littlewoods Pools company in the 1920s. He employed over
a thousand staff, mainly ladies, in his enormous office/factory at Edge Lane, Liverpool.
The other main Pools company, Vernons, was on the A59 at Aintree, close to Aintree Racecourse.

I’ve had a few Western Stars, but this one was my favorite.
Constellation 6900, 525 N14+, 18 speed overdrive (proper drivers’ manual), 4.56:1 diffs, 68" bunk, 2800 litre fuel capacity in six tanks.
It wasn’t all beer and skittles.
Sdu in trouble, again!
But I did go to some interesting places.
Nice outfit SDU, but you can stick your frigos, the main reason I retired early from Gauthier’s, that rattling menace was driving me mad. I had avoided them for 40 odd years till I came here. Sometimes even risked the thing being stolen by dropping the legs and parking hard up behind the trailer.

Was never a problem for me, mate. Was sometimes for caravaners, parked in truck bays.
I always ran the fridge at the back, so one or two dry vans between the motor and my double bed.
The backloaded pigs were only in the dry season and only needed to be cool (10⁰~12⁰C), so the fridge hardly cut in at night.
The pigs were exported to Germany as game meat, they were illegal for human consumption in Australia.
Star down under.:

It wasn’t just the rattling noise, nor even so much the stop/start, though that was bad enough, but the bloody whistle to warn me that it was about to restart again. Couldn’t get to sleep just waiting for that bloody whistle.

RACING WITH A ■■■ ON THE GO, REALLY
My late brother used to do that in his youth, totally madness.
I am hoping the bloke on the little dumper is the crane driver as well, I wouldn’t want my head that close to a bucket with someone at the controls.
I like the shortarse Highwayman of Sankey’s, just like the one I drove for Ilkeston Haulage. The flat trailer was that close to the cab as well, which is why it was bow fronted, a nightmare to fit a square load on.

What diameter wheels are on that Scammel? They look rather large.
