Aaw c’mon Anon, other companies beside Bewick had good colours too!
Loved the Brady trucks done in aubergine when they were carrying for Cadburys.
Heard that two of the lads went to the south of France with Tilts. When they arrived it was a bank holiday, so Bill Glassey said. Ok, it’s hot, spend the weekend hosing the trailers down. The lads said F*** that for a game of soldiers and headed off to the beach for the weekend. When they unloaded the chocolate poured out of the back!
Maybe apocryphal, don’t know!

Don’t remember the mammoth major, but remember Ronnie and Furness Transport. Also remember your good chum Lol Chorlton
As Possy made sure you were in and out quickly, my Dad’s suggestion to ‘tip’ Lol meant I could leave the trailers to be loaded. Worked for me!

Moomooland,
Your pic. of the queue on Woodhead reminded me of a trip to St Helen’s one day . M62 was closed cos somebody jumped off a bridge so me and a thousand others decided on Woodhead. Joined the line at Langsett Reservoir and crept and crept ,took 2 hours to Devils Elbow and then it was found that two council men were cleaning gullies out with a stop and go board!!
Pc Plod had a word and you’ve never seen two red faced jobsworth workers disappear so fast.
Bassman
The F7 Livesley Transport what a smart looking motor, did they run a F88 by any chance
any one know.

That picture reminds me fo the photo which used to hang on the wall of the old Stainmore Cafe. It was of the big freeze in 1946 I think and all the wagons snowbound in drifts while the drivers who could make it passed the time around the roaring open fire in the cafe - just like I was when I was holed up there, round the fire, looking at the picture, one December.

900X20:
der floor Engine
I found this on Google,it could be to do with the lorry in the photo with the underslung engine. 900X20Bussing became part of MAN, but their design and influence could been seen well into the 1980’s. Popular on drawbar outfits, the “unterfloor” models of the MAN had the turbo straight six mounted horizontally midway down the rigid chassis. This arrangement gave a really low floor level in the cab and were well liked by long distance German drivers.
I am certain that Leyland also had an horizontal 600 series engine at one time.
That horizontal engine fitted in the 6 wheeler Leyland petrol tanker tractor unit was a Gardner hlxb IICR.
But alot of AEC and Leyland engines was horizontal in Coach chassis. My mate has a Volvo coach with a Horizontal engine.
this is one of the gardner leylands with the flat engine
