Aye that’s a secure load and VOSA bods today say ropes aren’t fit for the purpose everything must be strapped ! What do they base their experience on ?
That’s a very good point you make trev.
regards dave.
Looks to be a load of paper, hence the well patched flysheet, however,it is still poor practice to rope over the flysheet, the load security would not have been compromised if the ropes were under the flysheet, even so the load hasnt shifted an inch by the look of it,well done drive!

anyone old enough to remember the Canadian trucking tv program called cannonball?..it was on the tv in England in the 1950s I remember watching it then…filmed just outside of Toronto Ontario the tractor was a single axle cab over jimmy.Yep, I always watched that as a kid, think the main character was called Mike Malone, never knew it was set in Canada.
The rumble of the engine, the shifting of the gears…
Of course today it would have to be renamed… Carryfast

A collaboration between Lew Grade and a Canadian tv company, it’s where the name Granada comes from - Grade -Canada, Mike Malone and Jerry Austin.
Thought I’d got the link, but it’s only the intro.Wait out.
We hadn’t got a telly in those days so I cycled a mile once a week to catch it on my mate’s set.
My gran had a t.v. and she lived closer to home but she only had BBC!
Here ya go!

They might have used a better-looking lorry. That Jimmy must be one of the ugliest cabs ever made. Good job they improved it for the Bedford S-type!

Whoever loaded that…top marks. How the hell that lot has gone into a river and the load has not shifted is a miracle.
Pull that out backwards, pop another unit under it and deliver the load. Job done.

Here’s another couple of more shots of it
In 1985 the driver came off the M6 at J27 and down the A5209 towards Southport
Parbold Hill is a rather steep hill and also has a few twists and turns thrown in for good measure.
By the time you get to the single track hump back bridge and your all out of brakes then your going swimming.
A real credit to the driver that load never moved an inch.

It might be pig ugly, cramped noisy as hell but you know what I’d sooner be driving it than the modern high rise, air conditioned, automatic block of flats I’ve got now. I’m starting to dream about using my left leg on a clutch and shifting gears with a stick !
Pig ugly nah!!!
Good grief, Trev’s gone over to the dark side. Someone stop him before he moves to Leatherhead!

Yeh, that was my intention, to drive it round Leatherhead air horns blasting, belching out black smoke, with oil leaking everywhere from the green grenade under the cab, I’d be a hero to the residents there!
