hiya,
In the words of “Arnie” he’ll be back, the lad needs a breather after all the work he’s put in on this cracking thread, but he’ll be happy that others are keeping his thread going with some great material, I have got to have my daily fix of “Scrapbook”, just sorry I’m unable to add anything in the way of pics, one I don’t have any, and two I’m too dim to grasp the how to post pics thingy, but nobody’s perfect.
thanks harry long retired

I feel sure that the Christina was fitted with a Perkins 6.354 engine oiltreader.

Pete.

Found a bit of info in a book on this Argyle…( quote )… Only one type of any significance was built’ the Christina 16- ton gross four-wheeler powered by a Perkins 6.354 diesel engine with a Eaton Yale & Towne 5 speed gearbox and Eaton 2 speed rear axle. There were plans for a tractor unit and a 6 wheeler ridged, but the company ceased trading before they entered production. However Argyle did produce one ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ heavy tractor called the Trilby for the British Steel Corporation. This one off vehicle was designed to haul 120-ton load.

oiltreader:
Rather rare motor. An Argyle built by Argyle Diesel and Elctronic Engineering of East Kilbride 1970 to 1973, a bitsa lorry Guy cab with Seddon front panel and no doubt a Gardner engine.

The Guy in the top picture was based at Middlemore rd . Smethwick delivering Jag/Rover/Triumph spares, I had a similar Guy with a 180 Gardner, the 40ft single axle trailers were a nightmare delivering to small garages in town centres. The large boxes on the rear of the trailer usually carried E type Jag bonnets!

The second Guy was at W-ton depot on general haulage, I drove this motor a few times, it had a 280 turbo Rolls with a 9 speed fuller, it pulled like a steam train ! We also had 290 ■■■■■■■ powered Guys which had exactly the same huge dustbin silencer up the back of the cab but on the opposite side to the Rolls. This meant the exhaust exited about a foot behind your right ear, many drivers wore ear plugs with these motors!

Along with the Ford Cargo cab

NOT A BAD LOOKING WAGON !!

Depending on which bits I look at, the Ashoks have a look of a Cargo sleeper, a C40 Roadtrain and an Iveco Stralis.

I wonder if they’d get type approval over here??
