Hi Marcus

Loving the Ergomatic - I always thought they looked a properly purposeful lorry, no matter how many wheels they had.

Re the Merc 6 wheeler… L.Cam and sons had a couple of those as tippers ( they always bought two of everything - but only two!) and they were well liked by the drivers. They always looked strange when loaded though because they always looked very heavy on the handlebars, no matter how much care was taken… Bloody great steering wheel and a 6 feet long gear lever to play with as well…

Not too many more today unfortunately - I had another place to go (all will become clear… ) and there wasn’t that many in the yard. Damned silly way to run a haulage company - fancy not having lorries in the yard on a saturday afternoon :unamused:

norfolktrucker:
A couple more from the same stable as the 8 legger LAD, although probably not as rare

great photos in their own right, but i also remember when they got two new 19-48 Turbostars and there was an article in Trucking (might even have still been Trailer) magazine - I used to see, and hear!, them on way to tip at the long gone Webster’s brewery in Halifax late 80s

That Dennison cab looks like a right abortion. Did anyone drive one?

Thanks for that pic of the Merc, Marcus. I haven’t seen one of those for a day or two… The other one was an ‘R’ reg I believe… Lovely pic of the old Sabrina too

Today’s offering is a continuation of my little trip into deepest, darkest Gloucestershire all those years ago… Another firm sadly gone now :unamused:

Tidy kit and a great colour scheme. A proper old fashioned haulier…

In the last photo, the C-series had just been added and not yet painted. Ex Warners of Tewkesbury IIRC…

On the subject of Gloucestershire hauliers, who’s got the old goods yard beside the M5? The workshop is the old goods shed and there apoear to be some derelict skip wagons in there. I’d guess the station could be the old Dursley one? I used to pass it en route to Wickwar quarry.

Tyson H Burridge from ■■■■■■■ used to run a few units ,like you say they do look like an abortion but they had RR or ■■■■■■■ engines and some the Irish firms used them, so they couldnt have been that bad . . . could they?

…and I think Ruttle Plant of Chorley had one (but they seemed to have one of everything) wasn’t the Sisu very similar (don’t think the Finnish one would have a Roller in it though)

Nice pics these and looks like green was the colour of choice for Gloucestershire. Some of the other names that I recall from down that end are / were Brooke Hogben, John Wheeler, Coles, Downtons (I think it was RV and not CM back in the day) Lucozade, Tewksbury cold store and not forgetting that great big ice cream parlour by the Barnwood island, Frigo’s (all we need now is the legend that is Bubbs to provide a pic of one, or all!)

Hello again, another nice selection of pics from Paul, well done again mate,Ok Hayday…heres a few pics of some of the firms you mentioned…hope theyre of interest.

Brooke Hogden first, now known as BH Freight

Seen in Brooks cafe A38 Gloucester,MHY is ex John Golding Heavy Haulage

Next are a couple of C.M.Downtons in their attractive marroon and cream livery.

Lastly is a shot of R.V.Downtons Sed/Atk…Hayday my old pal, they are as you can see from the Bristol area, there were quite a few of the Downton clan which dabbled in haulage, they have always been associated with C.M.Downtons but there is no tie up.Paul Downton, the son of R.V works with me and confirmed this…he reckons the scrap trailer visible from the motorway near j12 on the M5 near C.Ms yard fuels the family tie up which I must confess I thought too that they were related.

Todays stuff.

Cheers Bubbs,

Hayday.
Yes mate, green does appear to be the colour of choice but it is only a fluke  I’ll take some more medication and see if I can post some of a different colour in a day or two…

To be honest, any colour is good so long as it isn’t white… :unamused:

Until the tablets kick in though, green it is…

Lastly, my favourite of the fleet. This is one helluva pretty lorry…
