Hello again lads, good pics Paul…I remember seeing the Langdons ERF around, actually bumping into the driver when I used to be on fridges myself…it was as you say a fab motor.I expect you’ll remember the haulier in todays 1st pic,Cheers Bubbs,
I thought Car Transporters run a bit high !!!
This was taken at Southwaite Services northbound 5.0m (16.4 Ft)
The ERF A series eight legger of Favor Parker, I think the bulk blower body was still in use when I joined the company in june 1999. It was hard work to use.

They have been going for a long time Wrinkly,I remember them in 1960 when I was in the RAF in Norfolk.
Yep, certainly do remember Stan Fields fine fleet When they shut the doors they had mostly Mandators but I think I can remember a couple of Seddon 400’s as well? They also had an old LAD cabbed Albion 4 wheeler - not sure of the model name, clydesdale? - with a shallow dropside tipper body. A few good old boys driving for them…they used to help out with the bulkers occasionally, when I was at Andrews, but they had no tipping gear. They had to follow us to the docks, wait until we had tipped, swop trailers and they would be on their way. Guess who had to join the queue again?
If it was a slow day because of yet another dock strike, tipping two trailer loads of wheat was our days work!
Ok. Moving swiftly on!! After leaving Andrews, I started on for Bonds. Better lorries, better pay, still good bosses and a shorter walk to work
1st pic shows one of the first of their Mark 1 Commando’s beside one of the last Mark 2’s. YHT was a bit special in that she carried a genuine 11 tonnes 200 kgs at a 16.260kg gross weight! Driven all of her life by the same driver, who smoked like a chimney! Mechanically he was very gentle but cosmetically, not quite so good!
2nd pic shows my old girl. The only 6 wheeler at the time. Traditionally, Bonds always had one and one only amongst all the 4 wheelers. That has now changed. New on June 1st 1986, she was the 1st new lorry I was presented with and I had only been there for 6 months! A bit of an unreliable old donkey but you never forget your first…
3rd pic shows the last Dodge bought new. She went on the road in December 1989, had a multitude of drivers and consequently wasn’t the best of them.
4th pic is the only one I can find at the moment of the first of the ERF’s. F305 REU was originally a lwb boxvan, was bought at a year old and shortened in Bonds workshops. Fitted with a refurbished tipper body and sent to work. She wasn’t really geared for tipper work but, jeez, she would fly! Anywhere hilly wasn’t quite so much fun…
Hi again lads, great stuff Paul…Bonds are always nicely turned out, heres a few of my pics which may be of interest,I’ll post some cuttings later on as these old tippers might not be everyones taste,Cheers Bubbs,
Great pics Bubbs, thanks for them
It must be a fluke but all those lorries, apart from F305 REU, were bought new by Bonds. Far better pic than mine of REU - this was the boxvan cut down by Bonds. I think she went on the road late '90 or early '91. Following the popularity of her, J9 FGB was the first of the new ones bought in the early part of '92, and a longish line of ERF’s. I believe they still have 2 or 3 still giving good service.
I’ll put up some pics of a few second-hand ones they bought later but, as you say, tippers aren’t everyone’s cup of tea…
Hi again, glad the pics were ok Paul…looking foward to seeing more of your pics, heres the normal stuff for the rest of the lads,Cheers Bubbs,
Loving those Bond’s pics but then I am a tipper man.
Look forward to seeing what else you have.
Cheers
Mark

That ERF 4w is still around with no signwriting. I think I saw it near Cirencester a few months back.
Do Bonds have to keep the wagons like that or are the drivers all enthusiasts? My main memory of them is seeing them at Chipping Sodbury waiting for tarmac. The drivers took any opportunity they could to clean them. Nice to see their clasic livery has stood the test of time, not forgetting Cullimores for that too.
Hi Nathan
Most of the drivers are enthusiasts but Bonds do like a clean and tidy fleet because it portrays the right image… When we started doing the shows back in the early nineties the grandson got bitten by the bug and its just snowballed from there really.
Agreed about the classic livery - so much better to see than the white with stickers! Smiths too, of course…
hi piston broke did you say you got some photos from your visit to are yard when you at bonds started the shows perhaps you could post them somtime thanks all the best neil

Yep, I’ve got some I’m going to put up Neil. I’m not putting too many up at a time cos my brain can’t cope, and to help Bubbs string the thread out as long as possible…
I’ll try and get them up this week
Hello again, heres a few Bonds, all clean except the last one,but it was probably washed on return to the yard,Cheers Bubbs,
Great pics again Bubbs
Small bit of info to go with them…
V99 was added and was the first time that they ran 2 six wheelers. Still on the fleet now…
J7 was originally J962 GLG I think. Bought at a year old and driven by the grandson for a year or two…
W9 was the last ERF bought new - possibly the last one bought. Still on fleet…
B9 was the first of the Foden’s. Not bad for a ten year old tipper and still on fleet…
J9 the second ( First was an ERF ) was bought new and given to the driver of B9. Still on fleet
M99 was bought second hand. I think its the one that was an ex OD lorry that did a lot of work for ■■■■■■■ but I might be wrong…
H9 bought second hand and still on fleet
L9 bought new. Originally in RMC orange and driven by the grandson. Still on fleet
S9 bought second hand for a specific contract. I think she was replaced with a DAF ( same reg ) but she is now wearing a tipper body…
Sad innit?
A few more then…
I had a hunt in the loft yesterday and found some more - they fill a couple of gaps so I’m back tracking slightly…
1st pic shows the last new unit that Andrews bought. Put on the road on Jan 1st 1980, she had a ■■■■■■■ NT 240 turbo, Fuller box and Eaton axle. Chassis number 41614. Given to my mate to drive after a long succession of secondhand stuff which included a D-series 28 tonner, a Buffalo with no power steering, an earlyish F86 and a couple of A-series. YWS was sold to the Rogers family and reborn as a showmans tug. Used for many years, she’s been recycled now
2nd and 3rd pics show Bonds F305 REU in before and after guise… I have always been an ERF nut and I can remember the boss telling me how they had bought their first one… it was parked in another yard so I went to have a nosey around. When I got back he asked me what I thought. My reply was ‘I thought you said you had bought an ERF, not that steel cabbed crap!’ His face was a picture…
4th pic shows the ex Coventry and Jeffs wrecker. Dodge dealers for years, when they shut the doors Bonds bought this old girl. Perkins V8-510 and 6 speed with a two speed axle. I loved driving this, fabulous sound! She was sold to a chap in the Bath area but I never saw her after she left Bonds - I guess she’s cut up now…
No more of Bonds for a while, you’ll be pleased to hear!
I’ll have a sort through the oddments
I remember Bonds’ RMC liveried Hiab; I saw it a few times at Wick Quarry. I think Bonds deserve a thread of their own on here
