I remember as a kid a family friend driving a F10

Would that be Mark “chippy” Wood ?
He drove it for quite a while.

It was a guy called Pete. His surname has slipped my mind. would love to find a photo of his F10.

Lee J,You just brought back memories for me of my first venture into general haulage, i worked for a company in Ripponden with the same colour scheme,Claude Hellowell & sons this was in the early sixties i dont know if they are still going. I drove an Albion Chiefton four wheeler loading mostly in Trafford Park for deliveries all over Yorkshire and up as far as Sunderland all day runs, as i had only driven tippers before i knew nothing about roping & sheeting ect, Due to the patience of the boss Claude i learned an awful lot looking back i think if the tables were turned i might have sacked me thanks for reminding me take care Melv.

Hi again, good stuff from Paul,I remember Andrews…didnt a D1000 die in the bushes and was visible from the A420?,heres todays stuff.Cheers Bubbs,

Hi Bubbs

Yep, there was an old D1000 there for quite a while. There’s a picture of her being lifted onto the back of one of Alan Badmans I think, not too far back on the thread, supposedly being saved for preservation. The Badmans driver posted a pic a while ago but cannot remember where he took her, and he is abroad now… She may turn up but I suspect she was too far gone - she wasn’t in a good state when I was there and that was 25 years ago!! :open_mouth:

Interesting spec though…■■■■■■■ V8 and a Fuller box but she wasn’t fast enough for the boss so he put a two-speed axle in as well! As you say, 28 tonner but the couple of them that they had used to cope with 20 tons of wheat on the back…

1st pic today shows my first artic and my all-time favourite lorry. PTC 392S. Registered on 1st August 1977, Rolls 265L, Fuller box and Kirkstall axle. Bought new after the success of the A-series. Fabulous growl to her when pulling hard - I can still hear it now. Apparently she went down to Devon or Cornwall to end her days but i have no idea exactly where or if she still exists. I would love to get her back…

2nd pic shows JAC 12V at the end of her time with Andrews. I believe she went to the same place as PTC. Bought 2nd hand from Western BRS when a year old. My abiding memory of her is the backwards Fuller gear pattern! Driven by the same driver who came off of PHU, he had her for at least 6 years, probably more but I had left by then… I passed my class 1 on a thursday, was given the rest of the day off and when I got back in on Friday at 8am was told that the driver had called in sick… ‘Take his wagon and get yourself up to Southrop (Lechlade for those that don’t know), load it up and drag it back here for Monday delivery. If you want, swop trailers and go and do it again’ I was like a dog with two…tails!!

These were the lads who were running out of Howdendyke.

I remember as a kid a family friend driving a F10 painted light blue and dark blue in the livery of I think ‘I Dawson’. I’ve never seen them since then. I think the bottom half/chassis was light blue and the top half/cab was navy blue. Don’t suppose anyone recalls them at all? We lived in West Yorkshire at the time so they maybe from up there somewhere.

That’d be H Dawson the cashmere firm from Birksland Street off Leeds Road in Bradford - I think their own account transport finished years ago, I used to work opposite their place in the late 80s

Where did you work JJ72?

claude hellowell are still going strong and the last f10 that h dawson had is still about but now operated by mark stalley transport it has been repainted in his colours

Hi again, well done Paul for posting more Andrews pics and the memories of driving for them,I’m sure I used to bump into one of the Andrews,he sold model lorries at shows and used to drive a Bowater-Scott D series Ford and parked it at the yard in Marshfield…long time ago though. Heres todays offering,Cheers Bubbs,

Hi again nice to see Claude Hellowell is still going he was into Seddons & Commers apart from two albion Chieftans & quite a lot of Albion Clydesdales which were on contract to Ripponden & District Carriers which i believe no longer exist, Thanks for that Take Care Melv. :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Hi Bubbs yes some good pic’s from all. Some info on this Ford of Stephenson’s.
IIRC it spent the biggest part of it’s life at least while owned by Stephenson’s
running from the plant at Middleton Mine to the railway sidings in Wirksworth.
A round trip of approx 3 miles,up and down all day from dawn till dusk or until they
ran out of waggons to load which was’nt very often.Sure it ran glass dust mainly.
Hence the shape of the body, but used to see it running sugar stone in season.
Seem to think there was a strange ending.

Mike.

The strange ending was Stephenson got shot dead on a lane some where nere Shottle
it must have been about 1973/4

Hi Bubbs

Yep, your memory isn’t failing you just yet! That would have been Les Andrews, one of the grandsons of the founder. He did do models but also did some lovely code 3’s as well - not sure if you realise that they also ran coaches but I have a couple of models in their livery that Les did for me years ago. His father and uncle were coach driving well into their eighties - Les’s brother Ken is still driving them now. He has to be around 80 himself

Today’s little tale is about, I believe, one of the first of Langdon’s owner drivers. Chap by the name of Bernie Fishlock, a genuinely nice fella. A Marshfield lad, he spent some time driving for Andrews, went away and then came back on the radar with an F12 in Langdons colours. He hated it so much, he got rid after a year and bought the 112 in the first pic. It is pictured in 1989 with a new fridge trailer.Later in '89 he traded the Scania for The Refridgerator… Fabulous machine!

Seen first of all on the ERF stand at Truckfest I think. The couple after are in working mode - tag fitted and registered for the road. Bernie had another ERF after this one - L reg but not too sure if he had any more but with the same reg no - but had to pack in some years ago because of illness. RIP Bernie
