These two were driven by the same fella, if i remember correctly. A man named Irvine I think…
Basil!! Help me out here
The ‘F’ reg was owned new by Jos K Febry but when they went belly up, it was taken over by another branch of the family who then added the ‘J’ reg.
I’m sure I will be corrected if I’ve got it wrong…
Did those Erfs end up at a co called Sheppards from the Brizzle area?
John West trailer . . subbing for Western freights?
Hi Suedehead
If you mean G.A. Sheppard, I don’t think so - although the livery is very similar… Febry’s did have a B-Series before the ‘F’ reg. The reg was YWS 998V (or 997, the memory is failing! ) - that was Paul Ham’s first lorry as an OD (Hams Transport from Devizes) - you may know of them.
Yes, they did sub for Western Freights quite a lot…
Hi Bubbs yes some good pic’s from all. Some info on this Ford of Stephenson’s.
IIRC it spent the biggest part of it’s life at least while owned by Stephenson’s
running from the plant at Middleton Mine to the railway sidings in Wirksworth.
A round trip of approx 3 miles,up and down all day from dawn till dusk or until they
ran out of waggons to load which was’nt very often.Sure it ran glass dust mainly.
Hence the shape of the body, but used to see it running sugar stone in season.
Seem to think there was a strange ending.
I cannot recall that Ford at all Mike, or the company, but I must have seen it! I suppose being ‘over the hill’ at Ballidon I wouldn’t have had much work around Wirksworth!
1st pic shows a motley crew in Chipping Sodbury (ignore them!). The backdrop is Joe’s last and newest Bison, a ‘W’ reg and you can just make out the driver Tony Wilcox behind the wheel
2nd pic shows, amongst others, Joe’s ‘V’ reg Clydesdale waiting for a load of black. The driver at the time, Pete Millard, is the one in the blue shirt.
Last pic shows Joe’s only Constructor 6 and driver ‘Chivvy’ Dyer. I think I took this when we were building the M40 extension between Wheatley and Bicester…
MY DAD USED TO DRIVE A FORD D SERIES FLAT BED ON THE FORD CONTRACT MONDAY TO FRIDAY , THEN ON A FRIDAY NIGHT HE WOULD TAKE A SEDDON UP TO MANCHESTER WITH A 20ft SINGLE AXLE FRIDGE TRAILER , THERE USED TO BE ANOTHER HAULAGE COMPANY NEAR THE FOOT TUNNEL NOT SURE WHAT THEY WERE CALLED , THEY HAD BLUE SCANIA 110/111 THINK THEY MIGHT HAVE BEEN CALLED DOUBLE D TRANSPORT

Hi all, wondering if anyone can help me find truck photo’s of Rumgally Transport of Cupar, Fife, Scotland. The colours were Dark green with a red stripe and mainly pulled curtainsiders with red curtains and Velux windows written in white. They also ran daily to Ireland with Velux windows. It was mainly there mercedes powerliners that ran to ireland.
Think the company started late 70’s had fleet of 10 to 12 trucks and went into liquidation in 1991.
I have spoke to the man who had the company, BUT has no photo’s, which tbh is a bit disappointing.
I would particularly like to find photo’s of the F88 they had SAO 673R which my old boy drove for them or any information/other photo’s of the said F88, I have a photo of it in Derek J Allen International of forfar paint scheme, think it must of been before Rumgally had it. The 88 was driven down England along with 5 other of Rumgallys motors in 1991 after the liquidation sale, bought by brothers who delt in used trucks, not sure if this will help but the brothers also had a lot to do with horses!!!
I have tried local boys that drove for the company for photo’s but they have lost the one’s they had over the years.
Anyway thanks for having a read, and look forward to hearing from you if you can help.
Many thanks
Greg.

Hi Ade,I cant see a problem mate…I seem to have got away with it for nearly 4 years on this thread, the moderators will soon pull off anything they think shouldn’t be on here so please join in ,Cheers Bubbs,
I remember as a kid a family friend driving a F10 painted light blue and dark blue in the livery of I think ‘I Dawson’. I’ve never seen them since then. I think the bottom half/chassis was light blue and the top half/cab was navy blue. Don’t suppose anyone recalls them at all? We lived in West Yorkshire at the time so they maybe from up there somewhere.
A couple more then… I guess this is a little history of me…
The first job I had when leaving school was with Andrews Transport. I started in the garage helping out the old boy with repairs on a very varied fleet then they put me on the original Young Drivers Training Scheme which meant I was cruising around in a battered old D-series when I was 18, for a couple of years. Fold flat body, ex West Midland Farmers, doing all sorts of general haulage out then put the sides up and grain back. Unfortunately, no pics of the old girl…
Then, at the ripe old age of 21, progressed onto the artics. Again doing all sorts of general - certainly the most varied driving job I had, definitely one of the most memorable. Happy times
1st pic is PHU 17M. Bought when a year old from Avon Truck Hire. She had one driver until she was taken off of fulltime duties about 6 or 7 years later. Always slow and gutless in comparison to RDF (2nd pic) but she rarely missed a beat. Beautifully light power steering but a HUGE steering wheel and the easiest Fuller box that I’ve ever experienced. Even as a kid I could manage clutchless changes around the yard…
2nd pic is RDF 221M. Bought new in 1974 I believe, from Jones at Chipping Sodbury. Always a tattier sister to PHU but a better drive all round. The guy I was in the garage with had her new but had a heart attack a couple of years later so she was passed around for a while. It didn’t seem to do her any harm and she just kept plugging away. She always had much more get up and go than PHU…
These two old girls did Andrews a LOT of favours after a disastrous few years with D-series 28 ton artics with ■■■■■■■ V8’s… Need I say any more? They followed the Fords with an earlyish F86, which was great but the boss didn’t like it, and a fixed head Buffalo - which never missed a beat but had no power steering (!!). Both of these were reliable but they decided to settle with ERF’s…

That’d be H Dawson the cashmere firm from Birksland Street off Leeds Road in Bradford - I think their own account transport finished years ago, I used to work opposite their place in the late 80s
