the fact the neds haven’t worked out its not a independence vote i find funny. instead of braveheart they will hand more powers to Westminster without no say as a sovereign state

just one last one from myself, this topic dosnt seem to stir the soul for many people theres only 7 pages, the topic on last one to post is into its hundreds already, so I don’t think to many people are really bothered the proof is there for all to see, as far as truckers are concerned
My personal thoughts ( and nothing to do with my job and not speaking for the owners of this website) is that I believe in both I think that all the nations should have independence and be allowed to legislate for the benefit of their citizens, however I also believe that the union is greater than the sum of its parts as said above. Maybe a federal system like the US has where each state effectively rules themselves but work together for the common good (what the EU should have been but isn’t). The outdated and out of touch house of lords should be replaced with an Upper chamber that deals with areas that we work together on like defence/trade/international relations etc but each country can work out its own domestic policies and apply them
I strongly disagree with Welsh and Scots MP’s having a vote on English domestic matters while English MP’s are not represented in the Welsh/Scots parliaments and cannot influence those countries domestic policies which is the situation we have at the moment. If the MP’s from outside England want to have any credibility for a yes vote for independence then NOW they should be abstaining from any vote in Westminister that is solely on English matters.
Like my Welsh and Scots friends I am also not British- I am English first- British 2nd
well said, but im Yorkshire first English second british 3rd, another vote for Yorkshire independence no not really, but seriously Scotland is a biggish country compaired to wales , but if you think about it theres nearly 60 million living in uk, but only about 6 million living in Scotland.so why all the fuss lets just stop as we are.

Ironically what you’ve described there is actually the ‘Confederation’ of totally independent sovereign states that America should/would have been and was meant to be from the start. That’s if the federalists hadn’t got their way eventually to the point of using force against the secessionist CSA.IE it really takes full seperate nation state sovereignty to be able to legislate at state level for the benefit of the state’s citizens. However that argument needs the realisation that the US civil war wasn’t about slavery which the Federalists used as a red herring to justify turning the US into a ‘Federation’ of states. In which Federal legislation actually overrules state legislation as opposed to a Confederation which is/should be based on a system of vice versa. As for the EU it’s just a matter of time until it becomes a federation ( USE ) just like the USA with even now EU legislation overruling state legislation in most respects, ironically especially road transport regs, amongst many others.
That’s in addition to the issue of national identity which should always take precedence over any type of ‘union’ .

No,just a knowledgable ■■■■ !! Bewick.
oh yes of course your not bad at roping and sheeting, although those little loads of paper/pulp quite easy compaired to 48 pallets of wobbly bottles
dieseldog999:
if your scots and want to know how the vote will go,just ask yourself this…after watching braveheart(which you must have done at some point) when the film finished, did you not just want to go out with a claw hammer and a Stanley knife and chib the first English dude you could find? most people wont vote yes for any other reason other than the hatred of English rule and the association of England that will end thereafter. so see you jimmeh and … freeeeeeeeedom !!!..and,theres no point in slagging off mel gibsons portrayal of a typical scot when years later in real life he gets greif for racial abuse and being bladdered out of his brains…I rest my case…
As I said somewhere else, Braveheart would have been more historically accurate if it had been called “William Wallace and Grommit” and featured a small plasticine dog and some mechanical trousers.

You should always check your facts first “roy”,we carried 3 or 4 loads a day like this for about 13 years,Barrow to West Thurrock and in that time only one load was shot but didn’t fall off so we transhipped it without losing a box, plus we never had a wet load !
What tell me has a bewick motor got to do with the Scottish independence vote. Eddie,

Blimey next you’ll be saying that Longshanks was a great English King not a vicious descendant of the French invaders who wiped out England and it’s heritage at Battle in Sussex. Before trying and failing to do the same to the Scots at Falkirk. The typically savage ‘removal’ of Wallace from the scene,as accurately represented in the film, being part of the plan.

I don’t really care much either way to be honest … I’d just like people to understand that Braveheart is a film based - very very loosely - on historical events. It’s not a documentary or an academic work, it’s Hollywood’s interpretation of history. Facts get skewed, omitted or exaggerated to help the story along. People should understand this before basing their actions on it. Fine if you want to find out more about William Wallace, but don’t just rely on Hollywood’s version of events.

Interesting link. I know some of the things mentioned are small unimportant points - the wardrobe incongruities, for instance - but some are not. All are there in order to make the film more cinematically appealing, as I said above.
It’s interesting, by the way, that if you Google “historical ina”, Google self - completes it to “historical inaccuracies of Braveheart”. First thing that comes up!

That’s cobblers as Google autocomplete doesn’t work like that. For me it came up as “Historical inaccuracies in the bible”, then “Historical inaccuracies in 300”, “Historical inaccuracies in films” and “Historical inaccuracies in gladiator”

OK, fair enough. Still plenty of pages detailing historical inaccuracies in Braveheart though …
