Scottish independence vote

Hi, im new to trucknetuk so hope im posting this in the right place.
I have one night out a week in scotland and was just wondering what will happen if Scotland vote for independence this year? if they do vote to leave the uk then I cant put that im booking off in the Uk?? any ideas??

You will be able to book off in the UK, until a new generation of tachograph is introduced which recognises Scotland as a country. If that option is not available on your current tachograph, then you can’t select it.

Simples!

Yes, put down you’ve booked off in Scotland.

I have been struck by how little discussion this subject has generated especially amongst ordinary folk, as a pub topic, Manchester United’s and Liverpool’s seasons are the common subject.
This will be a fundamental change to our nation should the Yes vote win, ironically we in the rest of the UK don’t get a say in it.
Who knows what change it could bring? Border control at Carlise? It’s possible, the Tory party has a score to settle with the Scots who have over forty Labour seats in Westminster, there are more Giant Pandas in Scotland than Tory MP’s
I think it will be a disaster for all of us and could lead to armed conflict in the long term, it’s happened in the past, look what took place in the Balkans.
Once you let the genie of nationalism out of the bottle, it’s very difficult to get it back in.

it’s a way off yet even if they vote for independence scotland won’t instantly become a ‘new’ country as agreements will have to be made with the rest of the uk and westminster will drag their heels, if there’s a yes vote i can see it being years before true independence.

I cannot imagine Mr Salmond and his colleagues in the SNP would tolerate the obfuscation and feet dragging from London, a Yes vote will usher in rapid change, I think the Tories in particular will deny Scotland the use of Sterling, currency union is off the table.
The remaining UK will not help the Scots cause in EU membership neither will the Spanish who have their own agenda with Catalonian Independance.
Brussels will insist on stringent membership criteria so border control at Carlisle could well become a reality in the short term.

If UKIP pull us out of the EU and an independent Scotland joins the EU then would Scottish citizens need a visa to visit the UK?

I hope they vote Yes,

The Benefits to england and wales in jobs and economy make it a no brainer!

The defence industry jobs coming back alone will ■■■■■■■ scotland.

Scotland won’t get into the EU as mentioned previously due to spain’s internal disputes scotland need 100% agreement for them to join by EU members.

It wont happen.i will vote no and so is everyone that i know.salmond does not ansewer questions.he just says others are wrong.in my head iam scottish not british,i know it sounds silly but if the yes vote wins then europe have us by the nuts and i hate them alot more than i do yous

Imagine…Nick and Dave gone in one fell swoop! What’s not to like? Vote yes!

Wish the English ( if there is such a thing) had an opportunity to ditch the whole Westminster posh boys club and start again, it would be fantastic!

Salmond won’t last anyway so do the right thing - the only vote is YES!

Curiously Shetland, Orkney and the Western Isles have started talks with the UK parliament for more autonomy, and the SNP don’t like it. Just a touch of hypocrisy, methinks.

My only stipulation with independence, of any kind, is you’re either in or you’re out. No cherry picking the bits you want to keep, or discarding the bits you don’t want. If Scotland wishes to be independent of the UK, then it should be fully independent.

I don’t usually get involved in political discussions, but I’m 100% with you on that.

If the yes"s outnumber the no"s there will be no U.K.to be independent of.

I heard recently that something like 5 out of the 10 biggest employers in Scotland is the government. These jobs wouldn’t stay there so that’s an instant blow to unemployment. They shouldn’t keep the GBP either. If they want true independence then it should be full and total independence.
I don’t think there’s even that much oil left now either. What happens in 40 years time when they have nothing? It’s hardly glamorous enough to develop a tourism industry like Dubai has.

Should the Yes vote win in September then Cameron will be toast, as leader of the Conservative and Unionist Party, to give it it’s full title, he will have the distinction of the break up of the UK happening on his watch, his resignation will be immediate.
The Tories are in a quandry on the question of Scottish independence, politically they have nothing to lose with one MP in Scotland, the Eurosceptic wing of the party also has to be careful not to appear hypocritical on the whole question of breaking away from Europe being a good thing while breaking up the UK is a bad idea.
Cameron has painted himself into a corner by not speaking out more forcefully about keeping the union but Labour who have the most to lose are just as ambivalent, possibly because Gordon Brown ran Scottish Labour Party as his own personal fiefdom and purged anyone of any capability and are now sleepwalking into a potential disaster.
Either way you have got to take your hat off to Alex Salmond, love him or loathe him, he has completely outwitted the Westminster establishment, run rings around them.
The Referendum in September means win or lose, things will never be the same again.

I agree with this.if we vote yes it should be to go alone ie no uk or europe but that is not how its working.dont worry boys we are staying as i like having a big mother flunking nuke in my waters,it says “come on then”

Regarding Cherry Picking that’s what Salmond wants to do. The list of things he wants to keep/share etc. is endless I don’t know why he wants independence other than he would probably make himself President. Its in the Sunday Post this morning his latest one is he would like Prince Charles to be crowned King of the Scots as whoever is King or Queen should hold the dual role in England and Scotland. So why throw as much money to the wind by holding a referendum when you could get the majority of what he wants with a bit more devolution. I will certainly vote NO. Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t. Eddie.

Yes im sure if its a YES vote then Salmond will declare himself King of Scotland and we all have to be eternally gratefull to him for freeing us from the tyrany of the English.

What al ot of people don’t get is that a vote for independence is not a vote for Salmond or the SNP. It’s a vote to be an independent country. We will have a general election in 2016 to determine who leads an independent Scotland.

At the moment i am undecided but leaning to the YES side at the moment.

Can I ask what part of the argument is making you want to vote yes as opposed to no?
