A mate raised the following (hypothetical) question: If caught in Scotland over their new limit, but under the UK (i.e. England/Wales/Ulster) limit, what is the effect? Banned in Scotland but what about the rest of UK, as you haven’t broken the law there?
You have to obey the laws of the country you’re driving in, so you’d be banned all over

and the EU
You can’t drive anywhere in the UK if you’ve been banned by any UK court because of drink driving.

22 µg per 100 ml of breath, compared to 35 in England and Wales.
In my own opinion I think the dd limit should be 0. I have lost a couple of mates over the years due to others that think it is ok to get drunk and then drive.
By all means go have a great night and drink what you like but get a bloody taxi
Drink driving skills… no excuse…

if you can AFFORD to drink you can AFFORD a taxi
I’ve not drunk for eleven years
and I’ve not killed anyone either by drink driving as I got a taxi or tabbed it!
RIP to your mates too
I paid £20 for one of those self breathalyser machines, don’t know how accurate is is but were fun experimenting with it, hic ! One evening having consumed one third of a litre of scotch and it didn’t go back to zero until 1600 the following afternoon, and NO I did not drive during that time.

I’ll put money that those drivers were over the current drink drive limit?
So, why would setting it to 0 have prevented those?

The argument is that 0 is unworkable, but for arguments sake, say it was zero, folks would perhaps be less likely to have a drink.
Instead of believing the theory that a couple or even an extra one is not going to put them over the breath limit.
I’ve always been of the opinion that it should be zero. Would it stop people drink driving? Probably not but it would take away the guesswork, alchohol tends to lower you inhibitions anyway making drivers less likely to stop drinking when they should.
D-ya not?:

Your right that its unworkable and as such country’s have lowered their limits. the UK still has a higher limit of 0.8mg as apposed to the French 0.5 Sweden 0.2 Germany 0.5 . so maybe it could be brought down to 0.2 .after all its the blow in the bag that then puts you up for a blood sample which is the real cruncher
those who drink and drive will always drink and drive…the negligible limits are only catching the 1 pint with dinner brigade,or the borderline morning after on their way to work easy pickings .theres no way its going to stop drink drivers drinking and driving.
Is just another nail in the country pubs coffin. A lot of folk used to have a pint on the way home. Nip in the pub, have a pint, a blether and be on their way. Now they drive home. No pint. No blether. The pub looses out due to lack of custom and the community spirit gets further eroded. Still the loose grazing live stock are a bit safer.
I don’t drink on a school night
But seriously, I don’t think its worth drinking if im working the next day.
