This Scammell Crusader which was used on the Euro work at Ackworth (CRTS) this unit was went on to be one of the Corgi Kings of the Road die cast models.
Mmm that’s different.
Took my test in this one and my first job is on the back

Been quiet on here for a while, so here’s a couple of pictures to get the thread back to the top.
Don’t think they’ve been shown on here before.1
Looks like cab curtains in that one.
Thought Brs were against drivers sleeping in the cab?
Good photo btw.

Thanks to Geoff Thulborn on fb for this pic:
Hiya…is this the chap who put the F88 cab on a black f88, it seens the same idea, the F88 one had some windscreen
left on so it looked like a yank with two little windows facing forward. ill have to ask Bekku to draw one for us as
no one seems to have a photo
John
Hiya had a quick shot of it myself sorry its not Scammell just showing the Idea
I drove this Crusader from Stoneleigh down to the Great Dorset Steam Fair in 2003 for Tony Jordan. It was LHD and had the 305Rolls and 15speed Roadranger. As most on here will know you only use it as a 10speed on the road, the other 5 in deep reduction. There wasn’t enough weight in the Pickfords Senior Constructor to warrant its use.
The whole outfit drove like brand new, the engine so responsive as it revved up and dropped back again, so crisp.
After the show I drove it up to Malpas so they were there for the show the following weekend.
Out of all the lorries of Tony’s I drove, including the Rotinoff, this Crusader was my favourite and kick myself for not buying it when he sold it on.
Colin.

Lucky man, I envy you that! Robert
Robert…being a Faversham man, do you remember when Francis Davis had Scammell Crusaders?.

A bit hazy. Mitchel Robertson had a green one still in 1973 and I think Francis Davies still had theirs then… Sorry, it was 41 years ago! Robert
I only ever drove this Crusader as a wrecker back in the 80s when she came off our general haulage fleet , by then she was worn out , but what were like as a overnighter ? did they perform well ?
download/file.php?id=113228&t=1, this one looks like a nice ,sort of loved wagon with his home made curtains , looks like its not washed to often though.
Can anyone tell me if the ■■■■■■■ E290 was ever fitted in the Crusader as I have never seen or heard of one. Thanks.

Just Rolls or Detroit weren’t they?
Dont think the Crusader was ever offered with any engines other than the Rolls and Detroit options. It always puzzled me a bit as they used ■■■■■■■ engines in other models made at the time?. I think ive read on here somewhere that the V8 AEC engine was going to be offered had it been successful. There may have been the odd operator who was’nt happy with his Detroit Mill and fitted a 14 litre, but none that ive heard. Chris.
