Nice picture Lawrence complete with home-made sleeper cab.
Don’t those 40’ trailers look long with only a tandem axle set up?

What makes them look longer,is the lack of wheel arches, side bars and all the other saftey tat, before it became the norm.

steve , this is SFC 443P Oxford BRS wrecker before it was a wrecker , it was on the haulage fleet before being made in to a wrecker ,I started in 83/84 and it was a wrecker then , great working fleet motor photo .
Hi STEVE , is that a Oxford Brs Crusader or Swindon ? , I cannot quite see the fleet number on the door ! , did Simon send you the picture ?

I don’t know where the motor is from Jakey, I got the picture from fb, it had Simon’s name on it. Here’s one from Phil King:

Hi Jakey. I think the fleet no. is MA358 for Oxford. SFC 103N was Swindon based fleet no. ME104. The fleet no. on SFC 105N would have been a closer number if they were from the same depot’
Hi TIDDERSON , thanks buddy I think I know the family of the driver of the crusader , I spoke to Steve Haynes today and Simon is the son of Mark who is pictured ! , he said Mark moved the press dyes round the Oxford plant with the Crusader , it must of been very old then because I am pretty sure
they were only used on long hauls for the heavy stuff at Oxford ,and it would have ended its days as a road /shunter .
I drove over to Rygor Mercedes today at Eynsham ,and happened to speak to Steve Haynes who lived in Barton and asked him if his brother was Simon he said No its his Nephew and his dad was a driver on Brs ,long time before me , any how he said he drove a Crusader round the plant (small world ) .
We had a Crusader when I was on for W T Laceys, I done one trip down to Milan while the normal driver was on holiday, cannot say I would have swapped it for my Transcon but it was not to bad.
crusaders could and did do middle east, this is gavin mcardle going or coming , from or to mid east , probably late 70s. the “bubble” was owner driver, the late great jonny robbins. note also the day cabbed, bromilow foden!!. not my pics, I think they were taken by kelvin parfit.
And right on cue, Benkku has drawn a fine picture of a Crusader Middle-Easter on his drawings thread! Here it is: Robert
