I see the ‘‘spirit of the wolf’’ unit all the time but very rarely have i seen the rest , smart fleet but he broke the rules - we all break the rules once in a blue moon but running 6000 - 10000 kms a month per unit of chart - i don’t know how you can expect not to be caught - very silly and dangerous operating
id still expect to see the business operating under a different name - with a different boss but the same boss if you know what i mean

I think most of us would aspire to running an outfit like Sandy Kydds, smart motors, hard working drivers, but most of all a ■■■■■■■■■ of faithful customers who wouldn’t consider using anyone else.
I’ve had a great deal of respect for the guy, and I was very surprised when this came out, especially the extent of it. I feel sorry for him, but also dissapointed that effectivly he’s been running a wild west outfit. No wonder I’ve never had a look in at work to and from eastern Scotland.
As someone who has been held in such high esteem by establshed hauliers and newbies alike, he’s not set a good example, and he’s going to have to pay for it, we’ll see if he bothers to appeal against the decision.
OK you can point the finger at the drivers who got greedy, and who were more or less driving the business along, but like the judge said, it was up to Mr Kydd to curtail such activity. I think they’re lucky none of them are going to be doing bird.
With possible the exception of the STGO class truck, the fuel consumption figures supplied by Scania UK are about right, they tally up to mine which is running on the same type of work with farm machinery using a V8, but like Baz said, there was far more than just the fuel figures that made the ■■■■ stick, like times on delivery notes and gate logs.
I thought VOSA were very hard on Sandy over the heart attack though, accusing him of try to stall and avoid the issue at hand. Its just over 12 months since I had mine, and I know that for 3 months I couldn’t be arsed with much in an enforced quiet everyday life, never mind having to sort out the mess that must have been falling down around his ears.

ok then,highlight any post on here,who has supposedly kicked fellow drivers and made on they are whiter than white,then comment specifically on that post.ive read through these posts a second time and cant find anywhere ,where this has supposedly been done■■?.

scania fuel figures■■? what a laff that statment is ok 4.4 may seem a little low. but how can scania ,daf,vovlo,renault qoute fuel figures impossible! there is no two drivers the same is there!! scania qoute 7.4 for a v8 top knacker etc, mmmmmmmmmh my thing does 5.5 to 8.4 on a good day if you are lucky, as i say everyone listens to vostapo qoutes and there guess work and most of it is guess work to other cases before hand, but yep kidds drivers may have come clean fair comment if they hadnt etc the figures would have been on vostapos say so wouldnt it,that scania says the figure is 7.4, that means sod all

None of it is ‘guess’ work!!! Going to court or PI youve got to have facts not guestimates…try telling a transport lawyer your calculations are guesswork and see how far the case and your career goes!
mac what i am trying to say is scania says ave 7.4 mpg yes?? so they work fuel figures out on that with fuel drawn , so my truck returns say 6 mpg so vostapo works it out at 7.4mpg i am over 1 gal down per mile so how ever sandy kidds did what they did fuses i think? i dont pull fuses aint worth it as we can see in this thread, but if vostapos work"d my fuel out on a ave of 7.4 i GUESS it would be WRONG figure to what scania says so in my eyes it would be guess work to cal miles/fuel they have done, after all they may have run double that mileage vostapo has said they may be able to return say 8.5 mpg so its a bit of guess work and come up with a figure what looks good, kidds my have 38,000 kms missing not 28,000 how do you know or how do we know should i say, because vostapo have worked it out and come up with that figure,
Are any 2 identical motors the same. From what i see of Kydds they had proper motors with good proper old drivers, Maybe the VOSA should concentrate on foreign bits of crap mostly 4x2 that work from the east coast ports that pay nothing towards our economy before they close uk companies down that pay taxes buy equipment fuel etc here,

I was an owner driver for lots of years i lost my work to a uk company with polish litho drivers so im bitter, but i have mates that work from the ports for irf so u know the rest,
they dont want us to have a economy thats why the let them all go sailing past, way to hard for them its easier to stop us lot

Buck73, a great sentiment, one that many would support. But just supposing the industry was organised enough to stand together in this way to generally improve rates there would always be the odd firm who would break ranks and spoil it for everyone else.
It will never ever happen, you can only survive and prosper by finding a niche (competitive advantage) or you survive by running bent (with the obvious risk of getting caught…)

i totally agree with you,i realise making that statement,that would be the reply i got.i was just wishing,in a perfect world and all that.there will always be greedy hauliers,who i have no sympathy for in whatever they get caught doing.like i said earlier,anyone who gets caught bent,gets and must expect punishment,which is totally justified.the point im really trying to get across,however,is that there are also hauliers who have to run bent to make a living,and if rates were addressed(maybe a bit of french spirit),there might not be as many bent hauliers running around today.but then,you have the double standard corrupt agency overseeing the haulage industry.it just goes on,and on and on…

Yes I know Sandy Kydd is going down not for financial reasons but for being caught breaking the law in a big way and has been put out of business through this. He won’t come back…he has no name, no repute, no drivers, poor health…it’s too hard to come back with vosa breathing down his neck also, even if hiding behind a.n. other as the transport manager/owner so let’s leave him alone now.
His drivers all knew what they were doing. Most drivers know how to bend/break the hours rules including pulling fuses and falsifying charts…they made their own decisions on a daily basis whether to continue to do it or not. Whether they were asked to do it or not is academic, they done it.
I know it’s illegal to falsify hours, we all do. However, most have done it at some point for whatever reason, however small a crime. What marks Kydd’s out is that they’ve been caught doing it wholesale and consistently after an extensive vosa investigation.
Most of the Scania V8’s in this country have quite a bit (ahem!) more mileage on their engines than their speedos…if you get my drift. I would imagine if vosa had the resource to examine more firms every week to this level of detail there would be a lot more like Kydd’s going down.
There are several underlying reasons for the posts on this thread…some of you are unhappy that Kydd may have had an unfair business advantage (oooh), some are outraged that he was ‘running bent’ (shock horror) and some are jealous that he had top range motors (green monster). Deary me…welcome to the real world, it’s not very nice is it?!
I know we are all entitled to an opinion but I’m reminded of the words ‘glass houses & stones’ when I think of this case, with respect to other drivers and hauliers. Think on gents, the next time you chuck a chart out of the window and draw a manual one or tip off the card…how much further do you need to go to be as guilty as Sandy Kydd?

Slightly of this topic but would it be possible to set a poll up with a few options to see how many people do run bent on the forum? Not sure if it could be done anonymously but i find all the recent discussions fascinating with people saying they never do it and others saying they have/would and there must be some that do it occasionally. I reckon theres more that do tip of card etc than don’t but im only guessing!

I.ve been following this thread since it first appeared. I have been sickened by so many posts which have done nothing but “put the boot in”, to Sandy Kydd, and his now out-of -work drivers.Talk about kicking a man when he is down.There are some on here who have nothing to learn on that score. The above post is one of just a few which show any sympathy whatsoever for Sandy Kydd and his staff.(Well said “Scannyfanny”). I do not know any of them personally. I would hazard a guess, that they are of what is sneeringly called “the old school”, by many on this site. I am proud to be one of them, now retired. My personal view always, was that I was working for my gaffer, he paid my wages, not the Ministry of Transport. I did whatever was required to get a load to where it wasto be delivered, at the time it was due there.I did not allow the Log Book, or the Tachograph regulations to get in my way.My driving career started on a Bedford 3 tonner, in Malaya in early 1950,s. It ended on a Daf95XF 360, (day cab with a pod on top), on International work, in 1999, During that time I got just 3 points on my license (for a tyre offence), in 1979.So much for “bent runners” being a menace on the road. I wish Sandy Kydd well, with his health problems.When his drivers get their licenses back, they will at least be able to put, “It is a matter of Public Record that I am a hard grafter”, on their CV.Good Luck to them also.
