i wonder if this is possibly the same motor(s) that passed me at ecclefechan northbound at about 17.00 yesterday in an old shape 143 possibly m or n reg.■■
it didnt seem to bother vosa at carlisle though.strange.
i also find this story a sad end,pity we couldnt have a worthwhile extension to vosa"s remit,which allows them to fine/ban/any firm which offers haulage companies paltry rates in which to move their wares by road transport.i know its called"competition",but alas,it would stop the current way some operators feel the need to operate.it is a cut throat market out there,but i feel there is probably not a lot left to give.

They were’nt just doing a bit of fiddling to help ends meet, the trucks had between 6000 to 10,000 klms of missing mileage in just one months worth of tacho investigation, no wonder VOSA and the judge came down on them like a tonne of bricks.

joe,if you read my post properly,you will see that i am not condoning the actions of a “bent haulier”,but in fact bemoaning the fact that this is what some hauliers are reduced to because of crap rates in the haulage industry.i think its high time the rates in the industry were addressed,i also think that bent drivers and operators should have their licences revoked.simple.
in our industry we have "the car council"who do nothing about addressing the rates that car firms deem fair,but is in fact an excuse for a “jolly boys” weekend drinkies for the select few.we should be like france and stop the job.everything.but i can sit here all day ranting, its just throwing a penny in the ocean.

I can see where your coming from in general Buck, but in Mr Kydds case he was hardly running a stuggling operation, but a very succesful business that could afford to buy brand new top spec motors and trailers.
in that case as mentioned above,he deserves,and his drivers everything they get.just a point,even the most struggling firms can still get brand new motors.in a previous post i mentioned that a firm i used to eork for,were taking delivery of new motors,right up to the day they went bang.

VOSA compared the fuel purchased for each vehicle based on fuel consumption figures supplied by Scania UK of 7.4 mpg, against apparent figures of 4.4 mpg when comparing fuel bought against actual recorded mileage, and when questioned under caution at Police/VOSA interviews, most of the drivers came clean as to what had been going on.
That was reported on BBC,together with a rival bus company,that had drivers in similar uniforms to poach customers,and the company had similar fare deals and promotions that mislead the public transport users.Nice try though,i could dress up as a “Stobbart” driver.
scania fuel figures■■? what a laff that statment is ok 4.4 may seem a little low. but how can scania ,daf,vovlo,renault qoute fuel figures impossible! there is no two drivers the same is there!! scania qoute 7.4 for a v8 top knacker etc, mmmmmmmmmh my thing does 5.5 to 8.4 on a good day if you are lucky, as i say everyone listens to vostapo qoutes and there guess work and most of it is guess work to other cases before hand, but yep kidds drivers may have come clean fair comment if they hadnt etc the figures would have been on vostapos say so wouldnt it,that scania says the figure is 7.4, that means sod all
but on that note they all look [zb] on the out come
I was thinking the same. 4.4mpg for a V8 580+ on heavy haulage would be about par wouldn’t it? Ok the drivers owned up, but personally i wouldn’t have found them figures odd.
no what i am trying to say apart from the drivers owning up etc, vostapo has taken press related ave fuel figures for a truck no 2 trucks or drivers are the same so they estimate the figures to what they belive looks right,and poss no where near the true figures, one thing i guess there will may be a few

if ive misunderstood your post,my apologies,i will ask you the same question as bedgar,who on here in any of these threads has said they are squeaky clean?if “vostapo” as you point out have made this whole thing up,it will not take a too competent solicitor to have this and many other cases thrown out surely.

i too have been where sandy kidd drivers have been nearly 10 years ago now. 37 accounts of falsifcation, it is not clever doing what kidds or ME and i am not proud of what i did either,infact anyone doing a bit of hours offences, but there is always a reason behind it, would i do it again…NO,NO, NO,definatly NO, it isnt worth it, but if you had a sort of a option SAY of finding someone face down dead in gutter or been able to help them from been found dead!! by working extra etc,what would you do buck!! park up and go for a beer with the lads■■? but you cannot comment on that really till it happens and hopefully it never does for anyone,thats why i for one dont say good bye etc to rough drivers/hauliers if thats what you call them as we dont know the full issues into peoples personal lifes,to why they have commited the offences??
if the drivers didnt admit to what they would have done , vostapo still would have done the fuel figure to what scania.daf,volvo etc says and estimate it should be doing this that and the other,
as i say it isnt big,clever and can cost lifes,but at the time you… pays your price and takes your chance,
Looks to me like it was a fair cop, and bloody good riddance too. No wonder he had a niche market, no bugger could compete with him.
Average fuel figures didn’t get the right result by themselves, the speeding tickets, ghost drivers, pulling fuses, falsified charts & no monitoring of drivers hours, did that. Oh and the drivers testomonies or did I miss summat.
FFS the guy had 3 months of adjournments to trty and put things right, giving drivers a video to watch at home hardly constitutes a positive commitment to address previous shortcomings. (it does however stop the driver from freely disposing of his time!).
No sympathies from me
