gb1:
As a youngster, I used to write to most of the truck manufacturers around the world, asking for sales brochures/literature for their various models. Most were obliging, and I used to receive packages from far and wide. Some even went to extremes.
It took quite a bit of explaining to my parents when the local Leyland dealer turned up with a demonstrator!
Anyway, I rediscovered a stash of brochures earlier today whilst up in the attic.
Heres a selection. Let me know if they’re of interest, if you’d like more, or if you want details from inside.
That looks like the ripper driving that transcon!
Do you have any circa 1979 Merc interior pics? Thanks.
Another old workhorse the F86! I had an ex Ferrymasters one for a while with their ‘conversion’ bunk fitted…WRT 871S. They could pull some weight for their engine size…not very well but they did at least get about
Those Mercedes cabs were good for their time, I had a 1633 and was one of the quietest cabs I had driven up to that point. Well finished out and extremely comfortable with a good driving position. Reliable V8 engines but I remember being heavy on fuel.
Blimey that GMC Astro puts the FL7/10 to shame for poor access to the bunk
I know I’m a little biased in my fondness for Mercs, but that 1617 range really turned the rigid market upside down, imagine going from a Ford/Bedford/Dodge/Leyland to one of those.
Keep em coming, only another 63 pages to catch up with bubbleman

Don’t think i’ll ever catch up with Bubbleman. That’s one of the best threads on here. Wish i’d kept all those old Motor Transport’s and Commercial Motor’s. Got a load more stuff in the attic, but it’s finding the time to sort it all out, but i’ll get there eventually.
Some of those pictures certainly take me back. I remember my dad’s first F86, and how big and spacious it felt compared to the Mandator he had before. Funny how my SSC still ain’t big enough!

Hi gb1, thanks again for those Seddon brochure pics and text. I tried to find one of these last time I went to Gaydon but there was just about everything else but, so you have really helped. These brochures really are a great find as any info on older trucks is so hard to come by, well done for hanging onto them and I’m sure others will enjoy looking through these pages too. Franky.
G’day,
Great stuff GB1 mate, love your work. As the wolf man says its great for model makers. I’ve a bit of a request please mate do you have any SK Merc V8 engine shots and any 2 Series Scania cab interior pics?
Cheers Jamie
