Err ok…
Yep agreed, a deterrent, a badly planned one, and an unsuccessful one…so what’s your point exactly?
(Sorry I just always expect you to make an argument out of everything as a routine)
Anyway that guy comes out with a much better one, irrespectivelly.
It should have been implemented from day 1.
Will the Labour Govt have the balls?
I wont be holding my breath
On R4’s Today programme this morning, they interviewed a teenager from Iraq who made the crossing with her family. She said that it wasn’t the family’s original intention to come to the UK, that was largely a decision made by the traffickers and given to them as their destination.
She said that if they were sent to some other country they wouldn’t try to make it back to the UK, and that if she could speak to other who were trying to get here, she would tell them not to, telling them how scary it was crossing the channel.
So it is possible to deter people, but maybe rather than expensive trips to Africa, it might be easier to use very legitimate scare tactics about how dangerous the English Channel is, and maybe have a unified co-operative programme to nail the smugglers, because it is clear they have a reliable and efficient communication network, as each country the family were trafficked through had it’s own crew of smugglers native to that country.
No surprise the BBC singled out a female teenager with her family, it must not be presented as the vast majority being young guys on their own.…nah that would never fit the remit
From my pov, people like that are entitled to claim asylum, genuine refugees from an unsettled war torn and war likely country,.I have no problem with.
To get back to the majority, the ones that wander our streets in designer gear carrying smart phones, generally making effin nuisances of themselves… if their country is supposedlly at threat through some war or another, why tf are they not staying to fight?
The genuine Ukrainian refugees in my home town are mostly young women with families and old people, I dont see any young guys of fighting age.
Another thing about the girl who was interviewed, she spoke English better than many of the guys I see at work, and I’d wager she could read and write better
Leandrethal?..nah not a scooby.
Simple solution? Yep you are right.
Complex problem?
Only so because of the way it has been dealt with.
Enter illegally = Not allowed in.
Not allowed in= Turn them right back around.
Not so complex after all if prepared to take a hard line and stop effin about with them.
I realise the notion of empathy doesn’t come readily to you, so I’m not going to bother to try to explain why it would be that vulnerable people fleeing a war-torn tribal-toilet like current day Iraq might simply go along with the people they have paid to get them to that point. I’m as much in favour of stopping the boats as most here, but I can hold that view without losing the basics of my humanity.
Absolutely. It’s obviously very early in his tenure and I’m happy to give him time before I start to criticise (not that he’ll give a damn about my opinion) but he has some real challenges (arguably the mess of Tory making) such as todays violent stabbing in Kent. The country is FUBARED and I completely understand it’s not a quick fix, but action is desperately needed across the whole spectrum.
It will be interesting to see how this particular and latest piece of sh entered our country.
Surprise surprise, the official line is…The guy being savagely attacked wearing .British Army uniform was…
‘‘Not terrorist related’’
But down to mental health issues.
Missing the point of what I said that these people were in the hands of organised criminals, they don’t get to choose what they do, they do what the smugglers tell them.
