Rust in Greece

Trucks from allover Greece which is paradise for old truck enthusiasts. Volvo F89 and Scania 141 are still on the road! Mercedes L 312 rusting in fields. Abandoned yards and many more catched during my trips before being catched for scrap. Please upload any pics from Greece you have.

I bet we will see some of these old motors earning a drachma or two more in the future Gr diesels, thanks for posting these pictures, I did Greece from 1989 through till 2006 on & off & loved the place…

An old Mercedes that was taken in 1985 by John Harrison.

How olds that Steve ffs its ancient…?

I haven’t a clue John, it certainly looks like a Greek working motor and I am sure that you saw quite a few of them about in Greece and Yugo back in the eighties. Maybe it was captured from the German Army on their retreat from the Balkens or it’s on it’s way to Gaydon although I can’t see it winning anything for presentation. It’s got a good nearside front tyre and the driver has tried to bling it up with a couple of spots  .

Regards Steve.

Got to be something The Germans left behind, I reckon with The European economy as it is at the moment I’d be running something of the sort to earn a shilling nowadays

As far as I can make out, this is the style preceding the familiar bonneted Merc type, which makes it pre-1961. Better-informed Mercedes enthusiasts may correct me.

This type of trucks (L312,L321,L3500etc) was the most common truck in Greece during the 50’s 60’s and bit of 70’s. I reckon that if we won’t get over our economic problems, these trucks will be popular again in the 2012 in Greece
Came mainly used from Germany and served on the poor Greek roads till their end. Their engines (90hp) were so durable that were used for generators or pumps after truck withdrawal from road.
One of these beauties is waiting in my yard for restoration sometime.

Also used for decoration

Bloody ell John don t you just want to go back right now, thanks every one for bringing back some of the happiest days of my life. Crow.

Be back in a shot Geoff, it was a time when blokes had a chance to socialise in an evening after a days graft, not like now where everyones strung out to the max.

I must be honest though I took the socialising to the max a little too often.
