I’m looking for class 1 work at the moment, there’s a few places around and the most forthcoming is Keedwell’s, quite local to me and they offer 4o4o
£11 or £11.50per hour (not great but it’s a start), average 50 per week £22.50 night out
I could earn about the same from 4o4o as I do in my Monday to Friday currently. It might be £12 an hour on weekends because I’m sure I heard this previously.
Can anyone shed any more light on this company and what they are like to work for, and what I can expect?
I’ve heard awful reviews and the total opposite.
It’s £11.50 4o4o straight through, m-f trampers £10.50 and £12 on weekends
Limited to 52, trucks have the fridges removed for whatever reason. Don’t like you parked in laybys or estates and prefer you in places on snap or in their yards regardless of drive time.
Uncle has had a few jobs in his time and ranks them as the worst he’s worked for in his short 3 week there.
This is all second hand info so make of that what you will.
I know about the limited to 52 and fridge thing (that is a bit odd)
Had a trial drive with them ages ago and they are willing enough
Guy I used to work with went there, said he didn’t like it but then I spoke with his nephew and he (ironic) said that he’s always jumped from pillar to post and not settled in jobs for a long time.
It’s ok money… could earn same from 3.5 days a week as I do m-f currently without night out money
I used to work for them based in uddingston but run by the transport office in Carlisle. I only left because I moved away from the area that I lived. Yes there is other companys with better vehicles, but the work was almost mostly the same stuff where i was based, most weeks would start the same by moving egger board south, then sometimes move packed board to customers, ran a lot of composite board all over and would get back loads of aggregate back north. Parking up was paid for on account on snap, frowned upon to park in layby and industrial estates, and why would you want to when parking is paid, if you had to pay to park in a non snap site money was reimbursed at the end of month when receipts got sent in. I would say go for it, you can always leave if doesn’t suit you. Take a punt and if it’s only to get time on your card it’s worth it
Trucks are all craptros, no fridges or microwaves. All trucks are poverty spec, but if you are so inclined, they’ll let you dip it in glue and drive it through the Kelsa catalogue.
Trailers are a mix of new and old dogs, all maintained in-house on site (Highbridge, Hensall, Carlisle and Warrington). Any defects are dealt with on the spot. Run legal, very much on top of tacho being clean, and if you run out of time, that’s it, phone the office and it’s their problem, not yours.
Work is varied, all over the country, but centred around a number of main contracts.
I’m 4on-4off, and wont go back to another rota unless I’m going back over the water. Money as you already now is steady, marginally beter than most in comparable area. Certainly beter than Ownes.
Left to get on with the job. Given a job, and not bothered untill I call them that I’m empty.
Drivers are paired up, so you always share the same truck with the same driver. I’m lucky, my oppo is like me, and leaves truck spotless every week (non smoker, carpets out, dash and floor washed etc) .
They are a good company to work for, and as with every job, it’s what you make of it. There are good days, and not so good ones, but on the whole I’m treated fairly, and left to get on with the job.
I allowed these clowns the privilege of Beaver power.
4 days I lasted An absolute joke of a company, dreadful pay, filthy wagons, in cab camera’s, and spoken to like a naughty child. On my 4th day I had a break after around 4 hours of work, planner jerk from somewhere in Yorkshire rang me up and started kicking off about me having a break far too early!
So I explained that I had a few personal things to do and as I was no longer employed as of immediately, I was sure he wouldn’t mind if I used the truck as my own personal transport for a few hours. As the lad was going ballistic, I decided to then explain that I would drop the truck back when I could be arsed and that he didn’t need to shout
We then got cut off as my right thumb slipped onto the red phone symbol accidently…
I have a mate who’s on for them, from what he’s said they are just A.N. other transport Co. There are undoubtedly better places to work, but there are also many, many worse places to work.
Kit well maintained, run legal etc etc. Like any large Co your best bet is to go in, keep your head down, don’t attract attention and just do your job. They put money into your account and in return you do your allocated tasks.
Horses for courses really. Go for it, if you don’t like it simply leave.
Have worked for them out of Uddingston/Carlisle. Totally legal, left to get on with it, treated as an adult, the occasional run in on a Saturday.
All Volvos, run at 52 cos Stuart thinks it’s economical, even although he’s been proved wrong! Re no fridges or microwaves, Stuart is a miserable sod!
Wages as have been already stated.
So they expect you to tramp put all week, with no fridge? Fine in winter but what about summer? the cost of running one on the truck must be negligible and save what, a couple of hundred on the initial cost of the truck.
■■■■ like that says it all about how they feel towards their drivers. Skimping to save a little bit of cash when a fridge would make all the difference to a drivers comfort in the summer. Only one thing for it, buy your own and run it off an inverter and keep the truck on tickover through the summer months
Trucking sideways:

Exactly, that attitude towards drivers stinks. Complete twobob cowboy outfit
that only a desperate chump would work for. All my personal opinion of course having never worked there but spoke with people who have.

It’s always easy to be disparaging about others from the sidelines. I know, I’m guilty of it myself. But I will call the company that is rubbish, rubbish. But I wont call a driver who works there, a chump just for that. You dont know why somebody works, or needs to work somewhere.
As for Keedwell, they’re not a “twobob cowboy outfit”.
No, they dont spec fridges. Yes, that is a bit petty. But that doesn’t make them a cowboy outfit. They pay what’s average for their areas (or a bit more), what else do you expect? I’m not aware of them querying hours booked, or breaks taken , a d the money is in the bank, without fail. The trucks are craptros, but legal. Nobody is expected to run with defects, or bend. Parking is paid for, no expectation of drivers spending four nights in laybys or industrial estates without facilities. Left alone to do the job. If you run late, and call, all is well. They’ll call you I’ve you’re running late without telling them.
I realise that I come a cross as a fanboy, but I’m not. I just have worked for them all. Little family hauliers (including the full card carrying cowboys), big blue chip ‘logistic providers’, a bus company, and they all have their pro and cons. In the end, it’s what you make of it.
Yes, I enjoyed working for Savilles out of Longwell Green. Small family haulier. Good atmosphere. New XF Super Space Cab (with fridge… ). Easy work. But, 5 days away, regular Saterday running in. No parking paid, unless load a d customer required it.
Now I’m home 4 days every 8, I earn almost what the 5 days a week boys earn, and I’m happy.
Conor (or Winseer, I get confused) want £500 take home, for three or four shifts a week. I have that, but without the daily commute…
He loathes nights out, or anything other than trunking. I loath doing the same job, every day.
I bet, I’m happier than he is.
