He has been offered an EC on many occasions

IIRC this is a 1971 shot of two 34ft tandems standing at Milnthorpe both loaded with Pet Foods ex Asfordby Storage, one trailer was going to Barrow-in-Furness and the other to Kendal.

Its a bit off topic but do you have any pictures of Asforby trucks/site?

Sorry “Richard R” can’t help but the Asfordby Storage motors were very smart in their red and grey livery,I recall meeting their Guv’nor once when I was loading he just seemed an ordinary sort of bloke,no airs and graces, gave me a hand to rope up IIRC.Cheers Bewick.

Milnthorpe depot 1976 IIRC this was a load of steel that was summat to do with Electric, anyway it will set off some of the lads with a crack about the sheet.

Hiya Richard I’ve got a picture of a Ashfordby F10 somewhere when we were trialing a road/rail set up we used to do all the Scottish and North of England traffic for pedigree petfoods back in the 70s and 80s when I worked at Stirlands
I don’t know if you can remember Ernie Dalby we had some warehousing in Melton and we used to do a shuttle between Melton and Nottingham once back at Nottingham our warehouse would compile orders for us to deliver

I drove for Asfordby in the 90s and Ernie was still about but his son Michael had taken over the running of the business by then, a lot of the drivers had been with the company for years as I believe that Ernie had built it up from scratch. All the drivers there were brilliant as I came out of the warehouse to start driving and they all helped with the odd bit of advice. I remember Lofty Burrows(rip) Lol Brown, Les Wright,Elmer Fassler and Peter Snitch they were always there if you needed help.
My only regret is I did not get any photos as I had a Scania 213m painted in the Pedigree Chum logo M207HUT, it was used for Crufts and other sponsored event along with a matching trailer which looked really smart. But saying that they had some Volvo Fl7 units that just we’re not up for the job in hand especially when my older brother went to fetch steel coils from Lowestoft docks and he spent most of the journey in low range. He had tractors trying to over take him needless to say that truck never did that run again (E447HBC)

Hi Tom, Alan Glencross is not very well these days having suffered quite a severe stroke about six months or more ago.

Dan,

I agree, I much prefer an EC, but an ECX it had to be.

Take no notice of The Boys Own saying “He has been offered an EC on many occasions”, the man’s away with the fairies.

The penny has dropped ,it’s a ex Aukers ?

this was me logs down on Monday coils up plate down coils up the rest of the week, chain/strap sheet daily sometimes twice a day, until a medical error arose,?, but if I got paid everytime a driver said I was mental for doing flat work in 2014, I wouldn’t need my licence back, funny thing is I enjoyed it, I was always told to be proud and have nowt flapping, anyway got me licence back now,

Memory fails me… what did we used to call it when we fed the rope through the centre of the X of the cross on the back to pull it down even tighter ? I’m sure there was a special name for it.

Don’t set him off on this “hands on thread” Franky, but I don’t believe he will have ever sheeted and roped a load, but having said that he believes he could teach the Pharoes where they went wrong building the Pyramids so don’t hold your breath! I know what I’d like to do with him, rope him down onto a flat trailer (a few double hitches should keep the ■■■■ quiet) and drive him none stop to Glasgow and turn him loose among the Jimmy’s in his underpants !!! What about it ? Cheers Dennis.
