roping and sheeting

We called it a Glasgow Hitch and in our part of the world it was considered “naff” as a decent driver would have been able to tighten his ropes properly without resorting to such amateur tactics!

That should save a dozen paragraphs from Leatherhead.

I think at this time of night Nursie has strapped him down in his cell sorry secure accommodation and given him his supository !!Cheers Dennis.

I know how he feels- I’m awaiting matron’s nightly visit bringing me another flagon of my “Somerset Medication”.

Memory fails me… what did we used to call it when we fed the rope through the centre of the X of the cross on the back to pull it down even tighter ? I’m sure there was a special name for it.

Ive always known it as A Dundee`.

A Dundee, that was it where I worked. Thanks. I was only 11 stone at the time.

A Dundee, that’s a cake init! I think it has a few different names depending on the part of the country you come from, I don’t think it was used so much the further South you got but most Scottish drivers used it, probably why the names tend to have a connection to there. I can’t recall my Father using this nor myself but some did in the Northeast, probably more for visual effect than necessity though. Dennis just make sure the unit pulling the trailer CF is ‘attached’ to has a Percy under the bonnet, he would love that! Franky.

A Scotsmans whirl…that’s a dance Ken surely!!!

I used to refer to the method of tightening the back cross as a “Scotch cross”

David

was also called a Spiders Web down south, a Dundee in the North. Proper Scottish name for it was a Gallus and in Scotland a dolly was a Kinch. Churrs drive !

A very professionally roped and sheeted Tyson Burridge Albion Reiver taking part in the 2014 ■■■■■■■ Trunk Run seen here at The White Heather Hotel on Kirkbride aerodrome.
