Yes they do if the car is registered to a farm in some backwater in poland, but they live and work here full time

Six months. After six months they should be registered in the Uk, which is means, they have to change the headlights and the car has to pass an MOT test. After this, the car gets UK plates and taxed and insuranced in the UK. BUT; if the owner leaves the UK for even a day only, the six months counts again. Plenty of eastern-european drivers do this, because the british insurance companies are disgustingly greedy ■■■■■■■■■

Ah,so can’t the hard working english man do that, say register it in the IOM and nip across for a day every six months

No, we can not do that, unfortunately. Actually, according the law, if they are live in the UK, after six month their driving license have to be exchanged by the DVLA. If you drive a foreign reg car with British licence in your pocket, the police can seize the car.
But I would have a big smile on my face, if the EU one day makes the insurance market and cheap insurers would kill the greedy ones in Britain…

Proud to be shafted by britain

is it really so simple? to register a rhd car in estonia would mean a complete rebuild, steering wheel on the left, correct lightning of course and to top it off - the local dealer of such car would have to approve of the rebuild.

and as for an englishman registering the car in the IOM - why not? around here many finns register their cars in estonia as finland has a huge import tax on cars and a yearly diesel tax as well, whereas estonia has none, insurance times cheaper as well.

Why not indeed milodon,my car has to be roadworthy,so why can they run round in death traps while we pay full dibs :imp:

Then they need insurance from Day One. Just as I wrote first time around. Is English not your first language?

my car has to be roadworthy,

So does a foreign registered car regardless of the fact that no MOT is required.

On most of the LHD(European) cars rear number plate, there r two stickers which indicates that emission and mot test were passed and states when expires. Also there is Europe wide recognised document called green card, which even GB registered cars have to have when driven abroad as a proof of insurance, wright?

Rong. Green Card is not required when driving a UK-insured car in other EU countries. All UK motor insurance policies automatically provide the legal minimum cover in other EU countries (typically 3rd Party Only).

I seen this one the other day can’t quite work out where’s if from, not northern Irish is it ?

Thanks! :grimacing: just looked it up and it’s only needed, when traveling outside of EU.

RO or BG would be my guess. The biggest problem or advantage, depends what side of fence you are looking at it, is that you can register RHD, trucks over there.

nope not from N.I. will be one of the right hand drive units from around the Dartford area pulling heritage trailers and the like registered in Bulgaria, clearly breaking the law as he is a foreign unit by not showing country of origin on the number plates and by using an orange background is hoping to pass himself off as a UK registered truck should anything go wrong. would be interesting to know when it last went back to Bulgaria
