RIP Drive.

How can a car park barrier do this sort of damage?

? Are you sure it’s not the same incident just with a new press release.

I think looking at the pictures they are barriers that swing horizontally and not vertically. If they hadn’t been secured properly they could have swung round through the window and all it takes is a badly placed blow on the head to be fatal.

West Mercia police, who identified Mr Barker this week, appealed for witnesses following the incident, which took place shortly before 7am on Tuesday May 27

Shocking and must have been horrible -condolences again.

I’m more inclined to say he’s driven into to the height barrier for some reason and its crushed him. Seems to be roughly bottom of windscreen height

I would imagine if he drove into this pole in the “crossbar” position, it would just be shoved off it’s mount.
Falling down on the cab doesn’t seem so likely looking at the further pictures to this story. The pole appears to have some kind of “swing across” mount, which in turn raises the possibility of “swung out, coming to rest diagonally across, so one drives into it at an oblique angle, and ends up running oneself through when the pole thrusts through the windscreen”…

Already a thread regarding this tragic accident from last week here> viewtopic.php?f=2&t=113978

That’s true mate, so I’ve merged them together to keep this tragic story all in one topic.
I then added the third topic on the same story to it.
Now all three topics are gathered together.

R.I.P. to the driver. :frowning:

RIP Billy.
To enlighten drivers on what happened…
As the driver departed the rear loading area, he passed the swing barriers, (the barriers had been swung into the open position now facing towards the loading area) the barrier to his right whilst on exit began to swing into the closed position…the end of the barrier entered through the offside rear side window then continued (due to the vehicle moving) levered its way through the cab and unfortunately into the rear of the drivers seat.
Such a sad incident.

The inquest into this tragic accident began today in Oswestry. (16/4/15)

Yeah I remember this happening (as I’m from the area) was pretty horrific and a real freak accident for the thing to swing in to the cab. What a horrible and ■■■■ way to go!

Day two of the inquest.
Argos delivery driver’s death in Oswestry was a ‘unique’ accident
