duncan bladen:
wonder what the payload on the fh is , looks a fine motor , but also looks heavy

suppose it was designed for its agility more than its payload !!

I think it pulls a drag on concrete blocks, hence the FH.
Cheers Dave.

These three ERFs were owned by my late great Uncle Isaac Smiles, Unique in there day I would say . They had walking floors operated by hand, Sadley there were taken from Smiles Transport for the 1939 War effort & never returned to England They were 1938s, & my Grandad told me when I was a lad that they served Smiles very well & quite often ran down to London, Regards Larry.

They would have built the biceps up Larry cranking a load off one of those.

A Scania with a beaver tail, seen about three years ago.

Well it was long before my time in the haulage game, But I do know that the floor was wound to the back when a load of gravel was to be off loaded, But then it had to be wound back to the front again ready for the next loose load, I recall my Grandad telling me that one of the drivers forgot & had to shovel his next load off, I bet he didn’t make the same mistake twice Eh. Also he said that they used to take some sort of steel structure to London & allways loaded back, Regards Larry.

Burgoynes of Lyonshall still run these older motors through the summer months on marquee work.

This photo of this Merc 40 ft long on two axles was take at Harrogate, Regards Larry.
