Think you’re mebbys being a bit harsh on the lad tbh mate.
It sounds like a pretty ■■■■ poor firm that wants sorted anyhiw imo, and they ain’t showing him any consideration or respect by trying to palm off a crappy at best and dangerous at worst truck on him, so why should he bother his arse about THEM.
Not sure if I’d go down the route he’s taken myself, I’d maybe just jack and find another job…plenty about.
My take on anyone that grasses up either a company or another driver is spiteful. If you arent happy in a company or do not agree with their policies. Just move on, dont make waves and cause problems that leaves someone in the [zb], go for an interview or assesment drive and if you dont like what you see, why go work for them in the first place? Just cannot stand this silly nonsense with sneakily ringing up and complainig.
As I said, I would do things different myself, but I see his point.
In my other posts I said if someone does something bad to me I want revenge, they obviously disrespect him, and think ■■■■ all of him and the rest of the drivers,.so I wouldn’t shed any tears if it was my firm and they came unstuck.
But as we’ve both said, better option to just jack, if the other drivers are willing to be treated like ■■■■, say bye bye,.and let them crack on.

I probably come from a totally different community and background than most people on here, my past career we all looked out for each other, nobody grassed anyone else up and if you didnt like it then simply walk away from it. If you have something to say, you say it to the person and iron it out. if it comes to knocking a few chunks out of each other on a saturday night in the club house then that is where it started but also that is where it ended. Back to work in the morning and you watched the back of who just knocked your teeth out and vice versa. All this culture of being a grass just gets my back up. Grown men do not cry or pick up a phone and sneakily grass someone up. Two things in life I hate, a scab and a grass.

Yep…I can relate and agree to all of that.
I just said I saw his particular point on this particular occasion, I did not say I’d deal with it in the same way.

To be honest mate, you don’t come accross as a grass or a scab so wasn’t directing any insinuations towards you. Just towards the sneaky get who thought it a good idea to ring VOSA. Personaly I would be embarrassed to actually put this post up and ask. Seems to me the day they closed the pits the world went soft.

That’s fine mate, I know you were not having a pop at me personally, so all is cool.
I think it’s a generational thing mate, guys today particular drivers, have no stomach to stick together, they are taught about Unions and the like in school from a negative perspective, things are a lot different to what they were when drivers (on the whole btw) stuck together and looked out for each other, when I started this game.
As I’ve said before on here many times, the best way to deal with it is to look out for numero uno, because you can bet as sure as hell, nobody will back you.
I know that just exacerbates the situation in the long run, but wtf else can you do?

So a lesson learnt do not ask a simple question on here - like I said - I was simply asking a question would using the online - Report about a commercial vehicle, driver or company a waste of time ?
Being employed with same company for 3 years and watching it go to ■■■■■ with no transport management (who resigned after his public inquiries) - with no one to address concerns with the condition of units and trailers - Yes would be easier to walk away from the job and work somewhere else -so thanks tramper for your views aimed at this sneaky get or git

Well I could educate the young about the Unions and how we were betrayed by the british government and the NCB. The Unions were given a bad name that has stuck around for years and my gripe with this is the fact that nobody ever looks at the history and the importance of the unions. Men sticking together as we did in the NUM is no different to the importance of drivers being in a union. The stigma of a union exists as does the propaganda for not being part of a union. That was all concucted by Thatcher and Ian MacGregor, they certainly got their way and has lived on ever since. Hauliers used to put drivers on a blacklist who refused to cross picket lines. This was the downturn of the haulage industry and the start of the new era of bringing in cheap labour on both industries rendering the British counterpart as 10 a penny.

Do you not think Unions helped give themselves a bad name by going to far with strike action, which forced Goverments to go to far in the opposite direction to break the unions, in my book they were as bad as each other.
Did hauliers not get black listed for crossing picket lines?
You make a fair point
In many cases the Union LEADERS and/or hierarchy (the actual ,‘union’’ being the members or workers) did lose the plot a bit, where power went to their heads.
The history part of the Unions which is positive, rather than the negative aspect in the 7Os go back to the origin,.that aspect should be focused on more, and the actual need for a union in the early part of the century, where working men were totally exploited by unscrupulous managers, giving them no rights or protection whatsoever.
The unions came along and we now have things we take for granted like paid holidays and breaks to name 2 examples.
Unfortunately state education and biased propaganda has resulted in the word ‘Union’ become a dirty one…just look at some of the comments on this forum on some threads.
Divide and conquer of the working classes has been a roaring success unfortunately.

No the NUM did not go too far, there was however the NUM’s failure to hold a national strike ballot and as the government ruled the strikes as ilegal due to this fact. Mem were fighting for their livlihoods and standing by each other regardless. Ian McGregor wrote a letter and sent it out to every NUM member telling them that there was no intention of closing pits. We were also told that we were being lied to by Arthur Scargill,This was a downright lie and underhand by the government. within the next few years just about every pit had been closed. Within 5 years no pits were left. If you are referring to the flying pickets as you state as being as bad as each other, this had to happen because of the scabs and the polish coal being imported. The lies and deceit that was told was all one sided.
Also for record. when you saw the desperation of most of the men who were hungry, no food, no money other than a few pounds handout from the Union and big strong men sat crying as they could not support their families and were losing their homes. AND YET still stood shoulder to shoulder with their brothers and would not cross a picket line even if their lives depended on it, that my friend is solidaritory. Something drivers should be forming right now. It really saddens me to see and hear how many drivers believe that unions have no place or power. How wrong you are!!!
Forget Coal Miners, its a drivers forum and the question was about whistle blowing to DVSA.
I would continue to fill in defect books, hand in the top copy, do it every day, and for the following few weeks, you have the defect book which proves you are aware, if its something that gathers points, pull into a checkpoint or workshop and ask them to check it. Or simply refuse to leave the yard, if they sack you, you take it to tribunal, no union fees, no court fees.
Using a daily Nil Defect system is better than a blank defect book with gaps between days.

Is that what you care to call it, whistle blowing!!! A grass is always a snivelling little weazel with no place working amongst men, however you want to dress it up in fancy terms. Don’t like it then ■■■■ off elewhere.

Nice one bad ass Walter….”don’t like it then ■■■■ off else where”….hahahaha, do me a favour ■■■■■■■■■, who the ■■■■ do you think you are, apart from some returning banned gob ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ nothing more, nothing less, just a clown with a keyboard.
Let’s see how long you last this time■■?
As for the union bullshine and the forces fantasy………
And stupid childish immature pricks who still act like they’re in the school playground just look like stupid childish immature pricks. People aren’t laughing with you, they’re laughing at you.
Wasting your time chap. Topic plays out as expected.
Internet hard men cupping each other’s balls whilst bull ■■■■■■■■ and walting.
Funny though, if they or their own were on the receiving end of crime/attacks etc you know they would cry to the authorities and try to find out all they could to get it sorted, how do they do it without the police………yep……they expect others to grass but that’s ok, it’s the right type of “grassing”
It doesn’t take two minutes to find several examples of fatal accidents that when investigated dig out issues involving companies running bent, seems a few of the spineless clowns in here, even now, support the bent companies, endorse not getting them shut down “because grass”….morons the lot of them.
YT the only problem I have with the all stick together miners strike is why didnt Scargill allow the National ballot. Was he so scared of losing? Should he have had it and won history would have been different. I don’t think he would have though that’s why he didn’t

The numbers were looking like a national ballot would have failed through the Nottingham miners. It was later proved that if a national ballot had have gone ahead it was more likely to have succeeded than to have failed. The Nottingham miners were a bunch of scabs and why the flying pickets were introduced to try to prevent the scabs from entering the collieries, They basically let the side down. A bunch of weak members that prevented Scargill from declaring a national strike and because of that unfortunately I amongst everyone else, we lost our livlihoods. The Russians and miners from around the world supported us more than they did. I loath them and so did every miner in the country.
