Why on earth would you do that , was talking to a neighbour & her husband is being made redundant on that day , it seems a really cruel day to me to do it on ,I’m guessing as he’s in haulage it’s contract related , contract finishes then , but doesn’t seem there’s much Xmas spirit in the decision
Nb I must be getting soft in my old age as I’d normally say at 67 , driving a bloody great big new merc he should be retired anyway

It really is not funny that someone is loosing there job , hang your head in shame !!
Our on site garage staff have been given notice too, their last day I’d 31st December. Apparently the garage is being levelled to make a car park.
Strange company Magnavale are. Although as they don’t actually run any transport I kinda see their point.
Size of that…
Thing at your place maoster.
You’ll be able to see it from the space station.
Yeah it is a tad visible
Apparently £140 million being spent on it.

I don’t know himwell moaster but believe he’s office based , no idea what he will do at 67 but I suppose knowing in sept you’ll be made redundant in dec gives you a few months to try & get a job , just poor but not unexpected behaviour these days from employers
i stand to be corrected, but is it to do with finacial quarters there are quite a few redundancies and companies cutting back at this time of year often makes the news etc as its a huge blow to people at that time of year (who usually have been told that there is nothing to worry about by management)
Better than 24th December, still getting paid 2 bank hols.
Hope the old boy’s getting a decent pay off.
He’s got three months to find another job. I can get another job the next day, I’m not sure what the problem is.

His wife said he was being made redundant , but I’m not sure that’s right , wouldn’t at 67 now mean his retirement age would of been 65 ? If so do you get redundancy after your retirement age , I’m sure where I worked once this came up , or maybe I’m wrong

You’re wrong on this. There’s no upper age limit for statutory redundancy pay.
My new driver.

His retirement age would have been 66.
Good point about redundancy once past state retirement age, it shouldn’t make a difference to anyone in theory because age discrimination, as with ■■■ and race etc, is no longer allowed in the work or public space, but in the surreal world that comprises modern Britain who knows?

Oh right , I thought it stopped or reduced after retirement age , there was a issue over this but I can’t remember what it was

It seems from a quick look it changed in 2006 ? Which as what I remember was along time ago could be right ( could well of been before 2006 when I remember the issue )
It won’t affect me as I’ll be gone before my retirement of 67 , but good news for the nutters who continue into there 70,s / 90,s
May be worth him getting a paper round, one of those in the countryside. Was talking to a fellow today who did just that -2am start sorting the papers and you are thru by 8.30 am so he said .Only downside is if its bad weather up and down farm tracks
