Thought it was common knowledge that a R D driver took a load to the moon but had wait to tip because a Willi Betz motor got there 1st.

Not quite    There was a dutchman already on his way back and an irishman who needed “just a splash of diesel” to get home

And an Englishman with an out of date permit & run out of money.

I heard it was two Englishmen, but only one made it back, the other one got locked up for fighting :open_mouth:

If your after exclusively euro work then Ralph Davies ain’t the place to start your career, like others have said your best bet is s+k in Barry.

If you sent me a pm,I couldn’t log in on my usual account so I do apologise for not responding.

Yea it seems like all roads lead to Barry

Ralphy used to send trucks to Kasakhstan and even further East than that, along with Peter Gilder and Sons out of Bourton on the Water, apparently nearly as far as the Chinese border, the trucks got a beating and fell to bits along gravel and mud paths for a main road.
An armed local guard was hired to sit with you along some routes.

Willie Evans did the Chinese border, what a character he is,spent hours listening to him in the canteen

Top bloke and then some,MIke Morrell did it too he’s still here and the guard he had got shot dead and was ■■■■■■ off because they become friends.Obviously.

I don’t know Willie Evans but I know someone who does and says the same as you taff. Willie is a top bloke who you can listen too for hours.

The tip point was alma ata & the reload point was m&m warehouse 40 k short of Chinese brdr. Usually back to Moscow & then load home. Never done it myself, furthest I got was samara.
If you know mike morrel say hi from jt jnr & snr. He will know who you mean.

all the blokes i,ve worked with could do two chinas in a week, and have 24 off.

I know there’s 32 Fly by Nite trucks and subbies on the way back from Moscow tonight.

Did you used to work for Ralph Turnip?

No. I knew a few Ralph men from my croome days. My ol boy worked there as a subbie for a bit and latterly as an employed driver.

I’ve seen some pictures of you guys running together back in the day.

If you know of any photos of Ralph’s FH16 N777RDF, they would be appreciated please.
I am restoring her, but have very few photos from her days with Ralph.

Random Ralph photo.

Hi Adam

I used to work for ralphy, i left about 9 years ago, i was same as you, heard all the stories of china and the moon lol, i had no euro experience.

It was all uk work until the day before christmas eve when the phone rang…the past and present know what i’m gonna say, steve says “fancy a bit of euro work” me “yeah course” keen as mustard see! steve says jump on boat at poole and follow the rest! ended up driving to G’s espana in torre pachecho x2 over xmas and new year. i was single then, but at the time i couldn’t believe how many married blokes were over there in the festive period, lots of davies of southampton there aswell,
the new boys (me) went irun, madrid, albacete etc. and the others went turuel

Money always in bank (this is important)

the top three drivers always had y111 y222 y333, it was if i remember morrell as previously mentioned then willy something, there were 2 willy’s and i get mixed up, one was scottish and had a tache and the other was called flydrive willy cause’ he dumped the truck in madrid and flew home in a fit of rage lol and the third was melvin cotteril i think?

but there were other good men on there, one who springs to mind was a thick set man, stood six foot from the ground with shoulders like railway sleepers, went by the name of Malcolm, from Evesham i think? (like the way i built that up lol)

the lad called mark used to work for ACS&T in wolves i think.

the really annoying thing was all the time i was on for him, pulleyns yard is about 7 miles from my house and i just dismissed them thinking they didn’t do euro but in reality they do more than most (NOWADAYS as in last 10 years) never mind, what is meant to be, C’est la vie!

à bientôt

Chris (i’m learning french)
