6 more on the fleet back up to 14. 5 8 wheelers and a 480 added June Kiernan and family have run waggons in or around Longridge from 1960 without a break just keep there heads down

I did a spell for Riding’s at the Longridge depot in the 60s and never came
across or knew of Kiernan’s, must have had my “headlamps” shut.

We would be under F V Eccles we set of collecting and running waste paper then a long spell on container work Preston docks finished of at James Fisher on spuds and fruit June remarried to Patrick Kiernan and started in construction she is still the boss and keeps us all in line

Someone was mentioning transport firm at Leyland behind Shell garage, I think the name was Coulsons I worked there for a time. The big guy that was mentioned would be "Big Dennis " I would think. I sat with him for a week before he took his test in a Chinese 6 Scammell he was a " rum bugger " who could charm the birds from the trees !!! At the time the firm was owned by, the recently widowed, Alice who brought in a TM (from Greenore I think ?) I can’t remember his name but looked like ( & was knick named ) Bamber Gascoigne. Alice had a daughter ( PAM ) who went on to marry one of the Ainscough family. I can remember that they wanted more than their " pound of flesh " so didn’t stay long !!! Lol

Another firm I worked for was Leyland Road Services based on Longmeany gate & operated by Bernard Murphy & Jimmy Millar, like many others long gone although I think Jimmy’s son still operates as a O/D ■■?

Mangley left Greenore and went there 66/67.All the lads that worked there were glad to
see the back of him.Deniss are we talking about the same he had ginger hair jolly chap we called him charlie.

My Dad used to work for Coultons that was were the the Shell garage was on Leyland Ln. Leyland road services that was Jimmy Miller his son Ian rent the workshop out and the yard to O/D Drivers, Ian still runs X1 Truck that is a Scania in the same paint that his dad Jimmy had.

The only other guy who I can remember from Coultons was a lovely guy by the name of “Harry” can’t remember his surname though as we are talking nearly 50 years ago !!! OMG !!! :unamused: :unamused:

Now you mention his name I remember Ian Millar & last time I spoke to him was when I was working at Pandoro on Gladstone Dock at L/pool & that must be nearly 20 years ago !!!

Hi Martin,

The name Harry ring a small bell but thats it. We lived right at the back of the yard and my mother still dose, but now they have put houses up. Ian is doing well chat on the phone to him now and again.

Anybody Know what happened to Albert-Ambrose the two sons.

Father Albert pasted away long ago and Ambrose lives in dads old farm old house doing animal stock transport and framing cows and bulls and pigs I think, Then young Albert was working the his brother that runs the Hen House Chicken out-fit, Cant remember the other sons name that runs the Hen House it will come back to me

Not sure if I,ve asked this before, but when I worked at Baxters on the Grange in Warrington we had Pandoro coming into us every day in the 80,s . One of there divers was an oldest guy called Tommy really nice guy I,d heard that he had been in a accident and had had a heart attack at the wheel over on the Wirral , not sure where he was based not Fleetwood I,m sure. Anyone know more
