Hi Big Al
The name doesn’t ring a bell, but I only remember Atkinson’s renting the big warehouse round the back of what was Crossley House Farm. We used to store cars in that building Bond three wheelers and Bond Equipe. Ramsden’s used to run old and new Fodens also a couple of Guy Warriors. Latham’s also had Fodens and later the Atkinsons with 240 8LXB’s.
Regards Edd.

On trunk for wh malcolm in the 70s we where friendly with the lathams night driver, think he went to grangemouth and return, john kirby was his name we had our break on return journey at the moss, remember some good laughs.

Is that not how a proper haulage fleet hould be run and how a yard should luck, or am I just old fashioned

If you don’t mind me asking, where did you get that picture from??

wh malcolms yard at johnstone the same as your photo, when on trunk for WH in the 70s Donald Malcolm would radio the watchman to open the gate and he would sweep in in his merc around midnight and drive past the lined up vehicles in the yard and then come in the front office for a chat.usualy he asked about fuel consumption (30 gallons)eachway he was happy.when we where leaving he sometimes gave us a cigar and always said safe journey. The big man as he was known was the best boss i ever had and was held in awe and respect by all.

Sharples used to be in Chain House Lane at Whitestake (and may still have the yard there, for all I know) but I believe they moved into Mayor’s old yard at Cuerden Valley, next to Bowker. Their last Borderer lay in the drive at Whitestake for years and years after it was parked up
