Preston hauliers

Mushroomman sent me this picture of a well known Preston Haulier, you can just recognise the livery of David Duxbury’s White under the muck.
A livery still carried by David’s son Ian on his Duxbury Transport lorries, based just round the corner from our yard on Red Scar Ind Estate, thanks Steve.

regards Big Al

You are welcome Big Al and once again my thanks go to Truckerash who kindly gave me permission to reshow it as it is another one of Ashley’s great photos. Is there any chance that next time you see Davids son Ian, if you can ask him has he got any of his Dads old photo’s  .

Regards Steve.

Hiya Heres a little tail that might of happend to one fo you lot!! This is about 1976 I’ve loaded out of Avonmouth (Dalgety) 20 tons of animal feed in bags
for Preston Whizz we’re there. The load was i think for storage???and was to go to ■■? Ingram they had Orange trucks with a Red chassis British tackle.
Don’t shout some of this maybe a little wrong!! Anyhow I am their no probs pull into the yard (Usual quarry stone)plenty of room. THEN out come the
German shepherd OOPs get back in cab quick, Its ok mate hes all bark hmmmmmm ok move slowly put foot on stepring lower left leg out CHOMP the
f… things got me.!!! But no pain yet, I see the yard men falling around peeing themselves. After a cup of very nice coffee iv’e been told a million tales
about this happened, You see the stones flirted up from the truck tyres and the dog used to chatch them and had worn his teeth down to the gums so
you got more of a squeeze than a bite.the flaming squeeze was more than enough. I suppose thats another firm that gone. I put this story on beacuse
it seemed a light hearted place to work and you could match my experience. I did tip there a few times after that and always got a squeeze HA HA.
John.

Oswald Ingham in Manchester?

Yup - Oswald Ingham.

Ran lots of orange DAFs on ACL work - one of my neighbours bought one, a 6x2 2800 DKSE; gutless & knackered by that time with a steering lock akin to a super tanker.

The first Bamber Bridge yard shunter (de-cannibalised for the job!) came to us at Blackburn as an MOT shunter from Oswald Ingham, in a thoroughly dingy orange

Was Ingrams just for a storage yard at Bamber bridge. ■■? I had a look on Google earth and that yard must be houses now. Was it past the
motorway bridge going away from Preston.■■? It Was 34 years ago.
Thanks John.

Perhaps you’re mixing up two different firms, John: there was an animal feeds company in Bamber Bridge called J L (“Jerry”) Ingham, whilst Oswald Ingham was a Manchester-based container haulier who ran orange wagons with red chassis

HI 240 Gardner It was Ingham maybe not Ingram BOCM had a place on the left and you come to a juction turn right and it was on the left
i can’t remember if it was before or after the motorway. There was definatly Orange and red trucks in the yard. And a dog.
John

Interesting bit of chat about ‘Ossie Inghams’ I did ‘three tours of duty’ for them in the 80’s & 90’s and I can only say I’m sure they didn’t have any storage or warehouse facilities in Bamber Bridge.

I’ve got to go out now on the school run and then it’s off too bed as I’m off on a run to London at 2.00am tomorrow but will come back to this thread with some more info; asap.
