Does anyone no the identity of a W& J Riding driver of the 1960’s who drove an LAD cab Beaver I think he also wore a white T shirt , brown bib and brace ( and being a Riding driver would probably be wearing clogs as well !!) I say probably because he was steering with his feet 'cause he would be hanging out the cab up to his knees waving at Possy & me in Brady’s Octopus & trailer !!! Believe me this guy could see us comming 10 miles away — no danger. I have often wondered who he was and did he ever fall out of his cab ?
The only other driver that could lean out of his cab as far as Ridings Lad was Big ““H”” off James Cropper’s but this was when he drove a 1050 Dodge for G.W. Taylor now thats going back some time !!!

hears a blast from the past shaws of englishmartyrs place preston they did all of goss es work in the 60 /70s
I vaguely remember them, although I’d thought that they were off Meadow Street somewhere. Am I right in thinking that they had some Atkis with a dark/light colour scheme, split a bit like the Ridings livery?

Just on the off-chance, myself and others have asked before on other threads whether anyone has any photos or info on W R (Wally) Crowe from Bamber Bridge - he ran a couple of lovely maroon MANs with full signwriting, back in the early/mid 80s, mainly on Stuttgart runs for Gentransco/Danzas at MIFT? Thanks

Hello Everyone,
What happened to Cannings Transport, when we used to deliver the 400,s to them in the mid/late
seventies they seemed to be a large succesful company, new premises , new fleet, bulk powder tankers etc
Curious to know what happened.
Same question for Naylors Transport.
Thanks

Naylors are still on the go with Steven and is brother running it but they dont run to many trucks now just do more out side repairs.
Most of the yard is rented out and we get all our steam cleans done at Naylors.

Peter years ago I ran to Chivers at Montrose regulary, Naylors were always in there loading. They seemed to
have the latest Leyland Lorries, did they get to road test new models ? I can remember seeing the first automatic
2 pedal control ergo cabbed Leyland in there in Naylors colours. Their drivers stayed in the same digs as me,
Jayne Laings on George Street, Montrose. regards Big Al

Hi Alan Hope you are well, perhapse you could put some of the Woodsides pictures on this thread although they arnt a Preston firm they have had association with the area since way back when
Hi Ian here we go then, as Ian states Woodside Bros have a long association with Preston, thats Ian’s Dad with his Atki Borderer.
Two more Ian, perhaps you can give some info on these pictures.
I remember a Woodsides driver from Bamber Bridge in the 80s and early 90s,a Scotsman called Duggie. He used to load Belfast/Derry out of GGD Maltby for Littlewoods five nights a week.He finished up with a three axled Merc unit, about 1993/4.
Alan Atkinson was a well known Preston Haulier taken over by Ainsworth & Martin, Alan now runs a trailer hire company out at Midge Hall, he is pictured here with his scale model of an Atkinson steam lorry. The two urchins in the back are my Grandchildren Olivia & Connor pictured at the Atkinson gathering Botney Bay 2003. regards Big Al
