Political discussions...

project fear …wasnt it that that said we would all be starving with in 6 months because the supermarket shelves would be bare.

way i see it and the more it is discussed its clear that those that didnt want brexit have gone out of their way to make it fail and then blame brexit for it failing

I started Euro in the late 80’s when it was mostly T2s and TIR parks. That is pretty irrelevant here.

In the EU all we needed for (most) goods was a CMR.
Basically a NCR piece of paper that had a few details such as goods, weight, sender and destination on it.
We carried blanks around and made them out ourselves or the sender did so.
That and an International Permit (like an O-Licence in a way) and off you go.

Now there are obligatory Customs declarations needed for everything plus other “documents”. Most are e-documents so not actual bits of paper, but e-reference numbers etc.

At it’s simplest a trailer might have 24T of widgets. That would need a CMR plus a Customs EORI and a declaration that the pallets are clean and conform to EU regs.
That could be £160-ish. You get to the docks and register all the relevant stuff, although that is normally done bfore you get there. If it isn’t you get to wait a t Selvington or wherever. On the ferry/train a screen will give your reg number and you will be told to either Exit port or go a parking area until cleared.

A groupage load will need an EORI for every item on the Trailer. I have seen the UPS trucks with sheaves of reference numbers!

The work I was doing was often 3 or 4 drops out of the UK when on CMRs. The company found very quickly that the extra paperwork and the expense of it made small consignments unprofitable. Those that were still profitable for the exporter were still a potential liability as one false entry in one item on a multi dropper and the whole vehicle would be parked for hours or more. They mostly run out empty now to save time.
With foodstuffs all imports into the EU go through the “Vet” a phyto-sanitary inspection. Again an expense and that takes time too.
That is now starting, sort of…with UK imports.
Some other goods need more inspections etc.

At the company I worked the work changed from some full loads and multi drop exports for small companies into some full loads going out or run out empty.
Imports changed from 6/10/18 collections into a full load or a few collections only.
The importers we worked for had to pay more to cover us running out empty, and to cover costs of documentation, and possible delays because of import checks. We all know that costs are passed on to the end customer.

Some transport companies have gone under or stopped EU work. Some are able to charge more for a good and complete service and keep going still turning a decent profit.
We the consumers are paying for the extra costs of the products, and for the extra Customs Officials employed via taxes.

Hallelujah…I’ve been saying that for years (as well as many others)

And ESPECIALLY the Tory Party even though they did only get in because of Boris and his promise to leave, but in reality they clearly did NOT want it.

It was all deflected and virtually postponed and conveniently partly buried because of the C word, and as soon as Johnson got booted, the remainers in charge of implementation had a free hand…despite what Frangers continues to dispute backed up by his ‘proof’ in the form of his infamous links.

As my new mate Nige says…‘Brexit WAS a success’ , it was the half assed way it was dealt with by the Tories there on after that resulted in the present state of faliure.

We Brexit voters were let down badly by the Tory Party,.and they are about to reap what they sewn at the next election…and good enough for em.

It aint rocket science.

No. It wasn’t by anyone that I heard.
The Leavers set that up as a “straw man” argument.
Show me anyone who said we would be starving.

But are the “sell by” dates on produce shorter now? I think they are. It takes longer for fresh to get into the UK.

The Johnson led Tories elected with a big majority in 2019? All candidates purged to exclude those who weren’t in the Brexit Cult?

FFS It wasn’t the remainers who negotiated the deal and told us how wonderful it was!

Next you’ll be blaming Tony Blair or Harold Wilson!
Fantasy. :grinning:

or is it that it was part of project fear and as that and many other examples didnt pan out that they now claim it wasnt part of it.

i havent been over the water for a year or so but regularly drive past dover and have never seen a queue of lorrys either with or with out operation brock in place. i couldnt comment if there is a queue in france or if the french are holding them up. or if there is a dare i say it driver shortage in and out of the countrys that produce the goods.

Having worked in food in one way or another for most of my jobs (warehouse, manufacture delivery etc etc). Trust me when i say that expiry dates mean nothing (dates changed when the fruit or veg is practicaly so rotten you could pour it out the bag). food hygiene means nothing (people seeing how far they can put sausages in their mouths and for how long or goods in covered in rotting bin bags with vermin running around ) and i have seen food melted down and reused (chocolate) put another way if i didnt have to eat to live i probably wouldn’t.

The www is open for you to point out what you are taking about.

No, because the trucks are held at Selvington, or stay at the loading point, or a truck stop, until their e-documents are ready.
If any clowns tried queuing on the m-way they would soon be hoofed off.

no need for operation brock then as that is what it is designed for

maybe so but they arent held at pepper hill (gravesend/dartford) or clacketts lane because the facilities have gone. maybe because the one at selvington is all thats needed.

EDit too add
Road freight has also dropped a lot since 2019

Some more links,

Farage when an MEP got on the Fisheries Committee, he attended one of it’s 40 odd meetings.
That is the sort of “expert” we really have had enough of.

Can’t find the article now but there is now some rule that fish exports have to be notified 24hrs in advance…A truck loads fresh fish in Boulogne after loading the e-docs are made (they must be exact) and it then waits a day before it can hit the train! Crazy!

Edit to add link

What used to be an under 24hr delivery of fresh fish is now screwed

Johnson gave us his “oven ready deal” in Dec 2019.
Before covid did anything to this country. Johnson remained in power for ages.
You are simply denying reality.

What next?
The lizard people? The blob? The worldwide global plan to etc etc etc?
You have been paying too much attention to Winnie.

I’ve never done pre-EU european work either, but I’ve spoken with people who have, it’s not just about the paperwork, it’s about the bungs too.

Not at all sweeping, I’m talking about one-to-one direct conversations I’ve had with a wide variety of Operators, not one has said “Yes, things are better for our company now we’re out of the EU”.

[/quote].

How has this been done? And by Whom? And to what purpose?
Business people don’t go out of their way to sabotage something just so they can say “See! I told you so”.

We were sold a pack of lies, now we’re just trying to make the best of it

As usual Condescension Man casually rubbishes any theory different to his own.…because HE knows better.

You seriously think that the same crew who were led by Cameron (who was painfully pro EU.) suddenlly after Cameron got his unexpected bloody nose, absolutely and mote importantly genuinely, changed their spots in some kind of ‘eureka moment’ and overnight as if by magic, all became pro Brexit, if only to follow the Party line… ok.:flushed:
When Johnson got the boot because of people like you getting your thongs in a knot about a effin after works party, they all again as if by magic, revealed their true colours…the rest is history.
And YOU write things off as fantasy.:joy:

Love the way you often and readilly imply I am gullible.
From the man who spent months hiding behind a surgical mask, (and long after others had stopped I would like to bet) and sabotaging his own family Christmas because he was fed (and swallowed) a load exaggerative bull crap.
Lizards and blobs indeed.:joy::joy:

Need to shoot, missing the Holland game because of all this crap.

No. I didn’t say that.
Look at the candidates in the 2019 election. The older and pro-EU Tories were culled. I said as much.
That is what happened !
Don’t try looking t the past and inventing excuses about what might have happened. That is called at best “counter factual”.
It makes for interesting books like “what if Hitler won WW2?”.

Johnson won the Brexit vote. He won the 2019 vote and he, and his chosen team negotiated Brexit!
No links needed: those are the simple facts.

Half time so I’ll answer.
Aye ‘his team’, pick one at random…
Michael Gove?
The biggest snivelling weasel since Willy the Weasel in my young grandaughters story book.
A honourable man?.
Domt make me kin laugh, a turn coat who will chase with the foxes and run with the chickens, a back stabber.
That was the calibre of many of ‘his team’.
All claiming to be fully behind Brexit…aye, my arse.
Why do we not save time by agreeing to differ,?
We have been having the same argument on all this sh for months.

Well, the great glorious leader of Brexit had free hand to choose anyone, and Gove is one of those he chose.
Johnson even chose as a Cabinet Minister one never unelected person who he elevated to the Lords. (And you moan about the EU being undemocratic!) .
If all the team he chose were wasters then what does that tell about the idea of Brexit? Who was there better to choose from?
And if there were better choices, what does it tell you about the person that did the choosing?
