Political discussions...

The links I give are to people who seem to be expert, or at least knowledgeable, in their field.
I try not not to set myself up as an expert.

Google is like a reference library IMHO. Although there is a lot of nonsense out there on the www, there is also some reliable info.

I expect that some of the stuff I link to is wrong. So if anyone wants to challenge it, great!

I don’t think that the @robroy posts saying “My mate thinks you are stupid” etc counts as such.

Why should those who inflate the price of farmland, making things harder for genuine farmers
[/quote
Have you any evidence for that statement ??

An explanation is here

It does to everybody else though I would guess.

Ok so a combo of your obtuseness and my bad explaining.
I was talking in terms of fairness Eddie Stobart has more facilities assets and ability to put up with all the b/s chucked at him with ridiculous regulations which are obstacles towards making a succesful and profitable business.
Same principle with farmers…or with any business I suppose.
That was all…certainly nowt to do with running bent.

There’s an online petition that was launched today demanding a fresh general election. Apparently within six hours it has gathered over a million signatures. Now we all realise that this means Jack @@@@ in the scheme of things, apart from being over 100000 signatures it must be addressed in Parliament. I do wonder though if any other party has garnered so much ill will within such a short time in power?

I await with baited breath skewed stats and links :joy:

So …because a bigger company is bigger…it should be able to handle more strict rules?

So… a smaller company will have less strict rules?

So… a small haulier could do things that a bigger one cannot do.
ie…run bent, according to “big boy” rules.

Not fair at all is it!
Different…one could say: two tier rules…you are asking for.

But the multi millionaire farmers, the big ones who should have a few bob saved up, are moaning because they will now have to pay taxes they have exempted from for decades.
Those who have many hundreds of acres were due to pay nothing at all, but a haulier would have to pay. Now they are moaning because they will be expected to pay summat at half the rate of a haulier.

To quote franglais "I try not not to set myself up as an expert "

On this debate I’m going to take the expertise of the farmers who live this day to day over both some guy in his library, or some truck driver on a forum who think he knows everything because he knows how to utilise Google to his advantage with agenda driven links.

You know they are coming. I imagine he’s sat in his study right now desperately searching, or currently has his head in the sand bucket pretending it’s not true because this current government can do no wrong.

1636 and over 1 million and 63 thousand signatures already.

I’ll leave that ther.

Ah well, those who have not been liable for IHT over decades, and some of whom will become liable are not going to be at all skewed are they?

The “guy in the library” started an accountancy farm in Ipswich which he sold and is now a Professor in accountancy.
I suspect he knows more about taxes than most farmers. And has less to personally win/lose.

And there’s the crux! “He has less to win/lose personally “.

Once more theory world trumps actual world.

I suspect that our tame accountant lives mortgage free in a six or seven bedroomed house in the very countryside that he seeks to decimate, with no actual idea of the harsh realities of farming for a living.

And once again predictably this line is swallowed hook line and sinker.

Aye whatever you say mate, you have worn me down at last I seriously cannot be arsed with your condescending patronising know all manner any longer, for today at least.
Put it down as another of your ‘little victories’ in your book.

You are doing great at endorsing my farmer mates opinion of you, (although as usual I predict you are totally oblivious to that.)

As my wise old Granda used to say to me as as kid…
‘‘Just remember this Rob lad, NOBODY whatsoever likes a Smart arse, and that is why they are always on their own’’.

You should take that on board as a measure of your popularity…on here at least.

1 million 63 thousand…and one.

But they ‘Aint as bad as the Tories’ according to our very own personal political authority.:joy:

He was also the founder of a company set up to manufacture Trivial Pursuit games. He set this up in Ireland and has admitted he did this to avoid the UK tax regime. He has since apologised for this.
He also lost a libel case when he made certain claims about Lord Ashcroft which were untrue.

At the time of me posting this there are 1,231,467 signatures and rising fast.

This won’t make any difference to Starmers government but it has to be embarrassing.

Just an indication of the mood of the country I would say.

I have spoken to many known Labour voters who have supported them for years, including members of my own family, and in different parts of thr country.

Opinions have ranged from ‘feeling betrayed’, (my own elderly family members) out of touch with the mood of the country, the hypocrisy, the freebies, the over zealous on sentencing, and in jail terms for comparitive trivialities, to losing their way in representing the working class, the list just goes on…and of course the infamous 2 tier policies on policing and the legal system.

The illegal immigration and the way they are dealt with on arrival seems to be the flavour of the month with many people, along with the Manchester Airport scenario, and the perceived cover up of whatever has gone on with the Southport thing.

And all opinons formed in less than a few months, in their very short time in power.
Looks like things aint going too well despite the views of the…‘Far lefties’

Why do you imagine he "wishes to decimate"anyone?
He was an accountant in East Anglia, care to guess who his clients would have been?

Thanks for the link. It might not make much difference now, but the petition closes in May, by which time it could make a considerable difference
