Political discussions...

So what are we saying here? Get very angry at labour politicians for taking freebies so we need to vote the Tories back in because they also take freebies but tried to cover it up

Pointless discussion as usual unless you just enjoy feeling angry

The Prime Minister taking a corporate box instead of using his season ticket makes sense all round because the security implications of sitting in the stands would mean far more police wages needing paid. This of course is completely lost on those simply wanting to point the finger because the election didn’t go the way they wanted. #itsonlyfiveyears #sourgrapes

Before you say anything, I didn’t vote at all. I got home from a 12 hour shift and couldn’t be arsed going back out despite my polling place being 5 minutes walk away. I had an idea of the way it would go, as did everyone else.

I believe theThe Working Class, as I knew it in childhood, ceased to exist years ago

Those who post here and elsewhere, bragging about not getting our of bed for less than £60k are not my definition of “Working Class”. If you’re in the upper bracket for tax, how can you be “working class”?

Personally I don’t care which party takes the most gifts but there does appear to be an issue with the taking of gifts by MPs.

According to the Guardian article (linked to below) the cash value of gifts to MPs has tripled over the past couple of years, so it’s obviously an issue the affects both the major political parties, it seems to me that expensive gifts for MPs has become normalised and surely that’s something that has to be a serious issue for honest democracy.

I agree that the prime minister not being in the stands at football matches makes sense, but I doubt many of us are naïve enough to believe that people who give expensive gifts to MPs are not trying to buy influence, so surely it’s time for changes in the rules regarding gifts to MPs and not just changes to the rules of gifts for cabinet ministers.

Personally I have no idea how this issue can be resolved but something needs to be changed.

Not quite.

It’s not just the corporate box though. My point has always been that Starmer had been there before with not disclosing gifts on time whilst in opposition and as an educated man doesn’t appear to know when a gift is a gift, this time as PM. Everyone knew that Labour would romp home…no sour grapes here.

No mate YOU are saying that… not me.
I could not think of anything worse than the Tories getting in for another term.:flushed:
So aye you’re dead right…pointless discussion.
But thanks for the input.

As for enjoying feeling angry…
It’s just comes natural when even acknowleging Franglais existence on here.

And if you think that’s me being angry, you should hear what I would like to say to him if I thought I wouldn’t get kicked off site.:joy:

Someone else who just does not get it.
I dont give a flying #### about Starmer watching his team, and I get your point about security fully.

I don’t believe I’m claryfying this again, but here goes…

Take as many bungs and bribes as you like, that is how things work in realworld, I aint naive and immature enough not to know this…
But not after continuously and publicly condeming those before you for doing the same thing, and saying that you would not be like that…but you actually have been proven to be just like that.

It’s getting a bit like pulling teeth.

No it aint the way I wanted the election to go, but I’m mature enough to accept a democratic result.
And if those on here who in the past have not, (Brexit for instance) and then go on to tell us that the opposition will not be as bad when they get into power, and then it’s proven to be ‘Same sh under a different name’ then I am going to keep on reminding them of this.

You mean someone who dares to come on here and not agree with robroy’s narrative.

Aye if ya like. :+1:

I agree with most of what @tachograph says.

The system does need reform.

Putting MPs and PMs etc in boxes at footie grounds, or VIP lounges at airports makes sense, and is safer and probably cheaper regards security too.

A footie club giving out tickets to their own matches is no big deal. A betting company giving tickets, might be different, and an oil company definitely is.

I would like to see no, or next to no freebies at all for anyone.
And no private nor company donations to any political party at all. All politics funding should come from the state…Yes, our taxes.
(I’ll bet that will fly like a lead balloon)

Come election time, we put a cross next to who we wish to vote for, and another cross for where we wish funds to go. (Tactical voters can relax)

Keep money out of politics as much as possible.

I also agree here, it will be very difficult to get a good system up and running.

Yep the working class has definitely changed since the likes of us were kids.

In my class at school the majority of us lived on a council estate (in the days before it was ‘downgraded’ to ‘social housing’,) we were all from full time good working families, that is how it was in those days.

Also in those days the working class stood up for themselves, but cut their own throats by going completely over the top, and getting too much power to the point where the tail wagged the dog.
That was the turning point for the change in the working class imo.
And things just got worse there on after.

I think most of those driver clowns you refer to, just suffer from both verbal diarrhoea and a lot of ‘drivercrap’
How many of them actually would and/or have done or said that in reality ?Or for that matter even stood up to anything or anybody in the job ?

The same ones who in pubs, ferries and cafe’s come out with the old…‘I told them straight, I aint doing that’
No you told them you would ‘do that’ then went out and complained about it to anybody in the yard unfortunate enough to have to listen to you.

Jenrick was on Trevor Phillips show Sunday morning…'kin unbelievable.

Sorry. Correction.
Unfortunately it is believable.

Jenrick…

What IS entirely believable is that whilst the vast majority of the country is focused on the hypocrisy of Starmer and his crew freeloading after condemning the tories for the same…Is that Franglais chooses to divert attention by pointing out similar actions by guess who/what…

Yep a Tory minister.

10 out of 10 for predictability.
The gift who keeps on giving.:joy::joy:

Franglais…

To be fare, hypocrisy is hypocrisy and should be called out regardless of which political party or party member is responsible

Jenrick is reported to be the current favourite in the Conservative leadership campaign so what he says and does matters.

Having said that I’m not sure that he will be the favourite for long.

The only flag that should be flying at every entry point to the UK is the Union Jack :uk:

Yep I totally agree…I have no love for the Tories.
And at least I’m consistent, and impartial, I criticise them both, Labour and Tory.

I will also criticise Reform, the party I last voted for, if and when they do something that I consider is worth criticising…I have no axe to grind whatsoever.

I aint a one trick pony and just criticise one party, and I have no misguided loyalty to any of them.
They are all corrupt and dishonest to varying degrees, it goes with the territority, anybody who can not see ir accept that us in Cloudcuckooland , some are better or worse than others… I have no illusions otherwise.

Freebies

Interest free loan

“Unintentional error”

What a diplomat… It’s like something Private Eye might consider running as a cartoon, but after checking with the Lawyers they decided it was beyond the pale. I bet Kemi Badenoch is pleased he out-gaffed her Maternity Pay comments

Let’s assume the roles were reversed 100%, and it was Boris and the Tories being exposed for taking all the freebies and expenses (but within the rules) that Starmer/Rayner currently are, you would be all over it like Gazza at a cocaine binge with endless links and articles.

If the roles were reversed then why wouldn’t I be bashing Labour more than Tories?

If you and others actually read my posts properly you might realise that I do not always comment on the correctness or otherwise of the events. I write about what happened and link to factual articles. You and others decide for yourselves that I must hate the perpetrators.

I dislike Johnson and some others because he is a liar and puts himself above others and has damaged the country for his own ends. I do not write about his acts in a disparaging way because I dislike his politics.
I also disliked Thatcher’s politics, but do recognise that she was a hard working and did what she honestly held to be best for the country.
That cannot be said of Johnson etc.
