Police markers on your car

Ratchet:

drew30:
As well as the ANPR markers, I’ve seen coppers round my way physically marking cars.

What they seem to do is cruise round the local pubs, and any car that has been parked across the road, or in the car park near the road, they put a little reflective disk (about the size of a 2 pence) on the rear number plate. I can only assume that if their headlights pick out this disk on a car they’re following, they know that car has been parked at/near a pub for a while.

I often leave my car at the pub if I’ve had anymore than 2 pints (I live 200yds away), and have found 2 or 3 of these little disks, usually around christmas time

I do not condone drink driving in any way but isn’t this illegal what the boys in blue are doing? Surely they are altering the number plate by placing a reflective disc on it? They are giving the driver a legal loophole out there if their lawyer is good enough…

Rat.

I think if they do arrest you for DD, the little disc will disappear as quickly as it appeared, and if you have had a drink and drive away knowing there is a disc on, you deserve to be nicked

It may be illegal, but so is beating up unarmed men in custody :stuck_out_tongue:

Our local landlord in Yorkshire was targeted several years ago, they used to intimidate customers by parking a couple of traffic cars in a layby near his pub, one in one direction, one in another and then send in a plod car to flush the drivers out, or attempt to do them for late drinking. He complained and gained an apology from above but over the next few months, everyone of his regular customers got a tug and a couple were caught.

They used to do that at The Red Lion with the trucks. Plod would grt parked up early morn to see who left early

Island Cafe on the East Lancs Rd was the same. I used to get some cracking lie-ins when the local Plod had one on them

ady1:
my own feeling was he was trying to goad me into flooring it to get away, then do me

Spot on, if they’re unmarked they will usually try and bait you in to taking up the gauntlet in the wee small hours.

Black unmarked X5 & white unmarked Disco in the midlands now, think they’re getting creative.

Highly likely although I can’t see how application of this ‘disc’ would provide a defence to drink driving.

I’m sure many of us have had a tug late at night/early in the morning (stop it ) especially if you have, either a decent car, or a ■■■■■■■■■■■■ yard car, you’re out at the same time as people coming home from the pub or a night out somewhere, the old Bill are only doing their job, although some of them have obviously been watching too much TV, if they’re trying to intimidate you into making a mistake then the best thing to do is pull over as soon as they look like they’re on your case, best get it over with early on and then you can both go on about your business, obviously it’s a good idea not to be full of beer or have a joint in the ashtray when you do this :open_mouth: but if you’ve got nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear from the Police

All coppers are [zb]s  . That is all.

I used to have a Honda Civic which I had spent a fortune on new wheels, exhaust, side skirts and custom front and rear bumpers etc.

One week I got pulled nine times three times in one day and for no reason what so ever I wasnt driving like an idiot, wasn’t drunk nothing it was because I was a young lad in a kitted up car so it is not always a marker on the car it depends what you look like to.

I have heard have no idea if this is true or not that you can have a marker put on your car where they can only pull you over if they have a really good reason to , again I have only heard this so do not know if this is true.

Its a lot easier to get conviction rates up when they pick on easy targets rather than catcing the real scum of the earth.

And bloody hell Rob K said something that made sense :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:

Ive been followed a few times by the police on my way home from the GFs on a saturday night about 12ish. Young lad in a small car, unfortunately for them my car is slow as [zb] and i dont drink, they havent pulled me over yet though. I have been waiting for some mardy copper to have a moan about my name plates :unamused:

Dyfed Powis police did it to our car whilst on holiday in their area in 2009. They actually did it out of spite because I would not tell them who I was which upset them no end!

The next day we were stopped as they had put an ANPR stop on the registration…as i wasn’t the driver of the car, they still didn’t find out who I was :sunglasses: Numpties the lot of them

Another one for the “what a whoppa” book !!!

Many, Many years ago when i was a lad, i used to drive a Cooper S . I got stopped by the local plod on three consecutive nights on my way home from my girlfriend’s house, and given a producer… the third night I had all my docs in the car but didnt tell the stopping officers that i had them with me, so they gave me the producer again, i went straight to the cop shop within about 5 minutes, banged the docs on the counter, the sarge came and looked at them and commented about how quickly i had brought them. i then asked him if i could have an appointment to see the chief constable or his deputy to make a complaint for harrassment. he said he would pass the message on and i would hear from them in due course… i never heard anything, nor was i stopped again for any " routine check sir "

My mate ran an S Type jag when I was about 18 and it was insured for anyone, he was 23 or something and seeing a girl in Hull. Often I would go with him and drop him off then borrow his car for the night or weekend. One night I was coming up Boothferry Hill and was pulled up. I got out of the car and demanded why I had been stopped, this sergeant unfolded himself until I explained, this was the 5th time i had been stopped in this car and always by the same police force. Funnily enough I wasn’t stopped for years after that.

Why would you do that? If you don’t tell them who you are, how do they know you have the owners permission to have the vehicle, how do they know you’re insured to drive the vehicle or even have a driving licence?
Seems to me you were trying to cut off your nose to spite your face.

I wasnt driving the car…and to be honest it is my perogative to Cut offf my nose to spite my face!!!

because the story is pants

he would’ve got nicked and taken to a police station nearby to obtain his details that way. So he didn’t get “sent on his way” without them knowing who he is etc etc etc

Police can also stop a motor vehicle without having to have a reason for it as the car is on a road

Mickyblue…you are just so wrong. I never said I was the driver…did i? So, maybe you should think again for saying my story is pants…!

It actually made the national press at the time, but that is, as they say, another story

This aspect is true. When I was a copper, we used a smart water pen on the rear tyre nearside. You only really used it if you wanted to prove the driver to be giving false information. You couldnt use it to stop them, you already had to have a reason to do that.

This happened to a friend of mine a few years ago, it happened that often that he actually managed to take out a harassment order on the local bobbies as he could prove he was being pulled over more than average and was legal everytime,

Passengers are not legally required to give their details

you don’t need to be a driver if an officer wants your details, trust me.
