Ok, Now i want to ask this as whether this is a normal thing to see, I’ve seen today on a car transporter on the bottom deck 3 yes 3 police cars brand new, Just wondering if this is a normal thing to see of delivery of police cars sorry if its a stupid question.
Wondered what would happen if someone stole one from the car transporter Fell off the back of the lorry Excuse much:lol:
It just shocked me to be honest, Never seen police cars been delivered by car transporter, i always thought they would be delivered by police people picking them up from wherever they get them from.
Nope these were on a bronzy orange renault premium, New shaped premium, Was VERY odd because it was delivering normal cars and had police cars at the bottom

I’ve also seen this but only on one or two occasions. I agree with your reasoning above. Can you imagine if they were delivered by a trade plater in a hurry?
I’ts all part of the government cuts, it’s cheaper to have 3 police cars on the back of a truck than patrolling under it’s own power with a couple of snotty nosed coppers in it actually catching criminals
Most forces used to buy their cars and equip them to their own requirements. They have now changed to leasing, like many other organisations. The company supplying the vehicles isn’t always in the area that the cars operate will from, hence moving them, already equipped to their customers specification, to that location.
Thames valley have the odd few by bicester when their oxon fleet needs replacing, three mile cross for Berks - not too sure on bucks■■?
but then again there is a garage out Witney way where our local mr plods cars end up after a silly bump!
also seen Met police vans on transporters on the M40 by bicester london bound the other week■■?

I’ve seen a few being driven on trade plates, usually not new ones and it looked like they were being driven by mechanics, the one other thing besides the plates all of them did was cover the blue lights with what looked like purpose built covers so that even if they were turned on by accident they wouldn’t show. I don’t know if that is a legal requirement or not
You’re going to start to see a lot more of this. The police are moving toward a standard patrol car across the country. They’ll have a list of providers and they’ll buy them “off the shelf” fully equipped and ready to roll so to speak. It’s supposed to save money, it’s heading towards a national police service via the back door if you ask me.
Well this started with the likes of Vauxhall Special Vehicles offering the police the availability of an off the shelf fully equipped patrol car, they have a list of Home Office approved equipment and the forces just order what they want fitting. IMO it’s a good idea to standardise the police forces, maybe not have a national police force, but certainly have training and admin carried out by a central agency and have one standard vehicle that all forces use for specific tasks. Ie astras for panda cars, V70 for traffic/armed response/area.
It was just shocking to me to see police cars on a car transporter and cars that wern’t police cars being delivered from the same one!! I’d of thought it would be a full load of police cars not just a few
Humberside (yuk) Police used to have a specialist engineering unit in Queens Gardens in Hull and they purchased & built their own cars from the local dealers. I remember my Brother supplied them with some armed response vehicles which were fitted with gun safes, occasionally the Motorway cars would come back for some warranty work.
On another occasion whilst working at Ontime Automotive. I collected a new Jaguar and took it to a place in Suffolk where they converted them into Police and Fire Chiefs cars, all the bells and sirens etc were fitted then delivered to the force or service
I used to deliver police cars on transporters, it’s not unusual at all, most of the ones you see are loan cars from Ford or whoever, they would have them for a few months then they would come back and go to another force, might be because they have had a couple smashed up, I still deliver them now only I have my own business doing it, you’d be suprised how many get wrecked , engine wise for just not checking oil and water.
I’ve seen both new and used police cars on transporters on several occasions, sometimes on the same transporter as other cars, I can’t honestly say I saw any problem with it

The people who were going to drive it would have to do some proper work instead of driving round looking for motorists committing some petty offence

Volvo did (dunno if they still do) used to send over cars to a Police spec, not huge differences but like a meatier set of springs for the extra weight of a coppers lardy arse harder wearing trim on the seats, even the steering wheel trim and pedals were different than customer spec.
There was a phase with the facelift Transits (04 ish) had uprated springs as the cage in the back weighed a fair whack and add a couple of customers and the suspension was goosed, I think Ford did a recall on them to sort it out.
When the Police had Sierra Cosworth 4x4’s these came with a cloth trim and no radio instead of the standard Leather seats.
The Police used to have their own units that kitted the cars out, dunno if thats still the case but not so long back GMP were sending their motors to main dealers for service and warranty work.
