If this is all about saving money, why dont they keep any car thats confiscated for criminal activity as local patrol cars.
They could be shipped out to a different force so the local bad boys dont recognize it and give it to the detectives for undercover work.
if they put stripes and lights on it they could be used for the local plod to run around in.
Wouldnt matter if it got wrecked then, coz it hadnt cost anything in the first place.

Strathclyde Police did…Clicky
excellent idea from Strathclyde that, probably wouldnt work in England , affecting someones human rights or something, just not cricket and all that.
I used to deliver cop cars to the MET. & Demo Range Rovers to cop stations all over. To get the R Rover on the trailer you needed ramps but to unload I just used to stick it in reverse ,floor it & they used to jump off. I would arrive at the police station & all the cops would come out to see the shiny new motor .I would jump in, roar it off & lean out of the window & say’ Sign here please!’ They were in shock
If you dribbled it off it would catch the front underside.

Although it is a good idea it didnt really work in Strathclyde. The car in question used to belong to a Glasgow gangster who was murdered about a year ago. When the police started showing off the motor all done up with blue lights and stripes this guys mates were just a little bit ■■■■■■ off, rumour has it a contract was taken out on the car.I’ve since heard the police have got rid.
with a bit of foresight they should have done a swap with a force “darn sarf” like the Met or swapped it with one from Ulster, then the local gangsta’s would have been none the wiser.

You’re right - they did get rid of it, by crushing it. And that, apparently, will be their policy from now on.

The police have a big evaluation on the cars every year with all car manufacturers trying to sell there wares.
This year it was at Peterborough show ground. Last year at Cheltenham Racecourse (Photo)
and for a good few years before that it was at Wroughton airfield Swindon.

Most if not all of Police forces buy plain “police spec” vehicles. You will probably find these are demonstrators being punted out by the manufacturers for test. (check if they have any specific police force badges on the doors) or does it just say “Police”
i seem to recall that the met had their cars wrapped ( stickered ) by a firm in Walsall in the west mids
