Peterborough hauliers

My cousin drove for lewis in late 1980s if i remember correctly he had a mercedes 1625 in cream and red Where i think flowers of ramsey bought them out,and he also drove for murdens when they were based at peakirk old railway station driving a 1978 erf b series , erf e10 then they moved to fengate he had a scania 113 before they went bust…i think there fengate yard is or was marshalls bodyshop…and he done stints at peterborough heavy haulage, murfitts, norfolk line and deeping direct deliveries where he had a bedford tl artic!!!

Here’s one from the Lewis fleet, of Mereside. Pity it wasn’t painted in their traditional livery.

As it’s Peterborough registered, i’d guess it was supplied by PM Trucks at Kings Delph - the area’s Ford dealer.
PM Trucks site was eventually taken over by Murfitts, which later became Norfolk Line.

Ralph Lewis bought 2 of these Transcons and they both came in White as Ralph didn’t want to pay the extra to paint them apparently.

The drivers were Mick Abbott and Alwyn ■■■■■■■■■■■ Mick Abbott painted them to their traditional blue livery at a later date by hand.
This information comes from Mick and Pete who were Lewis’s fitters.
Pete has given me a picture of 2 F7’s whish i will scan and post later

Thanks for uploading that Bill it was giving me brain ache.

The freshly painted x reg on the left was John Deane’s, the one on the right was driven by Monte Stratton

Barry J. White came from somewhere in the area, although I can’t remember exactly where. I wonder if there was any connection with Cyril White?
This Seddon Atkinson was driven by Graham Wakefield, who i’d previously worked with at Reads of Peterborough, and it’s seen here, parked-up by
the Dogsthorpe brickworks.

Barry ran free lorry’s out of Green Lane Eye, a Volvo f10 artic with a Tandem axle curtain sider, reg number PEE 966S which was driven by Graham Wakefield.
A Bedford TM 1700 four wheel flat bed, driven by Barry himself, reg number was XJL 77T
AEC mercury 6 wheel tipper which was driven by my Dad Sid Earnshaw , reg UDO 709K. this was replaced with another Bedford tm 2700 artic unit
which Sid ran either fruit to Bridgewater or Tanks from Frank Idiens at Wisbech. AJL 777T reg number, hope this info will fill in a few blanks and jog some memories.
Does anyone remember Brewin Bros of Eye or have any photos of R Baxter and Sons of Eye as well please

Anyone remember Ivor Slaughter from Warmington? He ran a couple of ERFs including this KV pictured below and later this A Series both with Gardner engines. Before his yard was cleared I took a few pictures of some of his past motors dumped in the field next to his house.

Thanks for the fresh input “bigmadhead” and “gardnersmoke”.

A nice shot of a Cyril A. White Foden - pre-delivery.

Not sure how I stand with posting this one, but i’m sure i’ll be told if i’m in the wrong.

Beautiful Volvo from the G.G. Papworth fleet. I do like to see painted wheels!

Not the best picture - apparently taken with mobile phone of original photo - but worth it, all the same.
Borrowed from Facebook site “Old Lost Haulier Memories”.

Think I may have mentioned these before. I remember them for their Mercs with snorkel air-intakes, and what felt like the fastest F88 i’d travelled
in when I got a lift home one night.
However, here’s an evocative shot of an AEC Mammoth Major.

A couple here from Pings…

Here’s something a little more up-to-date from A.D.Boyes fleet.

One from Slaters of Crowland.
