Peterborough hauliers

Templemans of Stamford?

Templemans of Stamford?

Yes, I remember Templemans. Dark-blue trucks, mostly Volvos and Mercs IIRC.
Had a lift one evening in one of their F88’s from Brampton Hut to Peterborough when on a dodgy. Don’t think i’d ever been so fast in a truck!
Also remember that some of the Mercs had the snorkal air-intake on them. Wish i’d got photos.

Incidently, I see E.H. Lee have gone under.

Just wondering if anyone has photos of anything from the Kenny’s fleet. Although primarily a Foden user, they also had a few Dodges, probably because they were supplied by the same dealer, Peterborough Engineering.

Hi gb1,I haven’t seen any photos of Kenny either on here, they were a big company years ago. There was a company called Fenland Transport or Haulage and IIRC the livery was similar to Kennys, running Fodens back in the 60s and 70s.

Hiya bubbleman has a pikki of a Kenny S80 Foden on his site i saw it 2 days ago but god knows where. Ex 70s brickman no finger prints

You’re right Chris, Kennys were one of the biggest hauliers in the area. I can’t believe that I never took any photos of them myself, but i’m sure someone will have something (Bubbs, this means you!). I can recall that they were taken over by Watts, who were involved in road construction/tarmac etc. The old fleet colours then disappeared, replaced with plain white vehicles with red signwriting. I can also remember an article in the local paper about them going to the M/E, but I don’t think they ever went, in fact I don’t think they ever went out of the UK.

Thanks John. Thats a hell of a lot of pages to go through.
I know what you mean about no fingerprints. Did’nt do much of it, but had a pair of hand-pads made out of old inner-tube that did the trick.

Hiya gb1 …I agree we did have the coated rubberised gloves. but at 23 the grey mater used to let you down somtimes to much falling over water
or the oppersite ■■■ made you forget what was a more important thing.then again you could feel a tender leg after stacking 10 ,000 bricks
and you did’nt get a slap for having rough hands ha ha.

Hiya Bubbs… nice S40 of Kenny’s when i was at Richardsons Waterhouses we had a S40 (TVT212L) the same as Kenny’s with a 220 roller and
doing the brick job. The S40 Foden was the smartest Foden to come out of Sandbach at that time,Its a pitty that Motor panels cab rotted so
bad ERF… Scammell …Seddon and Guy all suffered the same along with FTF and others.

Was yaxley Heavy Haulage, Peterborough Heavy Haulage? I remember when I was a kid in the 80s/early 90s they transported tanks on low loaders for a little bit or they could have been transporting them from Perkins Engines since they made the Challenger tank engine at one point.

Peterborough Heavy Haulage were based at Yaxley. I can remember them transporting tanks, but always thought their contract was with the MOD. PHH were eventually acquired by Carters (Woodbridge) Ltd, who then in turn were bought by Wincantons (I think).
PHH also did a lot of general haulage - mostly bricks - as did their sister company, Contractors Ltd. PHH trucks were painted silver, and were, amongst other things, memorable for retaining old style number-plates, ie. silver letters/numbers on black background. Contractors vehicles were yellow with a green band. I wonder what photos Bubbs has got in his Volvo box?!!!

Found this when looking through an old album… a firm i’d forgotten about.
Picture was taken at East of England Show, probably about 30yrs ago, and the truck belonged to R. Perkins of Maxey, nr Peterborough.

Also found this one, also taken at an East of England Show.
This one belonged to Pings, based at Whittlesey.

Hiya …I’ve just seen Taylors name mentioned. Was it taylors who had yellowish Scanias with a green chassis,
They did work out of the beet factory…Here goes nothing to do with trucks. i came out of the show ground
about 3 years ago and just before you turn left upon to the expressway in the bus shelter on the left i
see that tramp lives their. Is it the same chap who must have been there 30+ years.■■?

Don’t recall Taylors having Scania’s, though I stand to be proven wrong. I certainly remember them as having DAF’s.
As for the fella in the bus-shelter, he’s not a tramp - its just a lousy bus service, but there’ll be 3 double-deckers along anytime soon. :

Hiya, here you are gb1,a few PHH…Please excuse the cropped pics…let me know if you want some more.

Cheers Bubbs.

please add some more great photos
